Canon 7d – are these images too soft and blurry or is it me

i have manged to take some more shots with a clear foreground and background. all were taken with a tripod and on remote shutter so no shake.

the were taken in RAW with one shot focus and i used the AF-on to assist. The lense AF was on and i even altered micro adjustment drive for the 10-22mm.

i have taken a slice of the picture to reduce the file sizes. They have not been sharpened as i want to make sure there is no problem with the camera body.

Using a canon 10-22mm lense, ISO 160, F22.

in my opinion the 24-70mm lense photos are fine and the 10-22mm @F22 is the only that one looks too soft.

you thoughts per my original post are appreciated.

Ryzard's observations are very unhelpful because they assume that the 7D is at fault. Really a better way to assess the camera electronics is to try it on a test picture like they do in DPR. And don't use trees which have DOF issues and wide angle lenses which have a lot of CA and barrel distortion effects...Check the lens review in digital picture website.. Ryzard (stated issue with his 7D) says that 7D IQ is an issue on his, so all 7Ds are like this...This is a major fallacy equivalent to saying that because his BMW 530i SE is slow such as only accelerating 0-60 in 55 secs, all BMW 530i SE are rubbish.

I'm on second 7D body...and the truth is is a little better than the first...but still soft and muddy..and you are absolutely right , compering IQ to 40D , 7D is worst...First Canon 7D have no focus at all...second have focus but in wrong places...but even then focus is soft.....this camera have consumer grade chip and Canon do not QC but sell it base on the fact it is most technically advance camera with ineradicable futures such as full HD Video.....well so be happy not everything is bad...perhaps my third will focus ...but is a little chance to improve muddiness in the detail ...detail?? what is that?
Return the Camera.......ASAP.

Going for a third body? I'm wondering how is that a few people seem to have so bad luck with 7D, while many others are doing fine with it. Or is it something else? Just guessing...

apologies what are DOF issues??

the loss of focus in the corners re the 10-22mm lense, what can i do to solve this?
You will need to use a smaller F-Stop. Most extreme wide angle lenses are not very sharp at the edge of the frame wide open. Try using F8 or F11.
He said he did use f8 in the original images. He stopped down even more in the latest images.

Same problem here! Limit Exceeded message.

Program AE is not a good way to do a controlled comparison. The 50D shot is using F/6.3 at 1/100th, while the 7D shot is using F/4.5 at 1/50th. Can you rule out camera shake?

if you go to small apertures like f/22 you have to take into account that diffraction will limit resolution and sharpness of your photograph. So you will have to determine what the best parameters for the particular picture are.

There were threads in this forum that discussed diffraction limitations. For the 7D for about f/11 and smaller resolution will be limited by diffraction, not by the sensor (of course if you have a bad lens that could be the limiting factor)
