Hi,

Would love to hear folks thoughts on the differences between the two cameras - I love my grd - just don't know if I want to upgrade.

Thanks,
Jen

The two cameras have very different personalities. The GRDI is about getting things done well with a fairly simple interface - it was way ahead of its time when it was released. It is still a great camera today when most of its then rivals have long since been discarded.

The GRDIII is a leap forward in sophistication and complication. It is much deeper than the GRDI with many more features to learn. It also is has a highly professional lcd screen and that f1.9 lens. I think the images are much improved - the endearing rough grain of the GRDI is largely gone but I think that the images now lean towards dlsr look and standard. I guess many would be hard pressed to tell the difference.

Therefore the GRDIII might be the second model on from the GRDI but I hardly see it tramping the exact same fields - I feel that the GRDI will not be discarded simply because the GRDIII is in the stable and will be taken out and used for that GRDI-look. My other cameras have taken a lesser use recently mainly because the GRDIII is firstly very good and secondly it does take a while to master the GRDIII because of its depth. I flet completely at home with the GRDI in hours - the GRDIII takes weeks if not months to teeze out its full capability.

I am always trying ...

Jen,

I have the GDRI, II & III plus the GX200.

The GRDIII has only been with me a few weeks, so I'm still using it in all sorts of situations to see how it performs, but it really is quite a significant step up from both earlier GRD's.

I now find I'm using all ISO speeds, and colour accuracy is very good. I agree with Mitch too, that DR is much improved. Add to that the range of Snap modes now available and this little cam suddenly becomes highly versatile in a way the earlier models never were. But its also a very easy cam to learn to use.

In short, it well extend by some way, the range of subjects that its possible to use this camera on confidently. I was out and about this evening in full darkness at a busy fishing port, and was happily snapping away indors and outdoors all evening.

I'm very pleased with the results, and my GRD II will be sold, and probably the GRDI as well.
