I'm pretty busy at work so I probably won't have time to process and post comaprisons of the same RAW processed through DPP, LR 2.6 and 3.0 and DxO 6.1 until the weekend.

However, if you shoot raw with the 7D, do yourself a favor and download the free non-crippled 30 day trial. The detail that it extracts from 7D files without creating artifacts or sharpening is the best I've seen from any converter.

I didn't go to bed last night till 1:30 AM after downloading it just playing with it :)

Be careful with its auto noise reduction (you can turn it off) though: even the chroma NR seems to take away fine detail noticeably.

Have you tried Bibble 5 Preview, Julio?

Not speaking about the 7D here (I'm still happily clicking away with my 40D until I get my 7D) but it is far and away the best converter on my machine at the moment in terms of detail rendition - and that includes DPP, C1, LR 3, ACR 5.6, Raw Therapee and a few others.

I've actually got DxO downloaded but haven't installed it: I'll have a look, but I'd be amazed if it outdoes Bibble 5 for fine detail...

Yes I also downloaded the trial version and added the 7D body but they don't have the lens modules for the lenses I have, but also for some reason how come it won't open any of my RAW images from my 7D?

The only version that suports the 7D is the one that was released yesterday--6.1--and is Windows only. Is that what you're using?

It reads my 7D files just fine.

Also... the lens modules are nice but not 100% essential. The only thing they do that can't be done manually (or semi-automatically in the case of Chromatic Aberation) is the "lens softness correction." Vignetting and just about every type of distortion can be corrected manually also.

In this sense, it's no different than Lightroom or Adobe Camera Raw. The only raw converter that has a large database of most (all?) Canon lenses is DPP.

The only lens I have that is currently paired with the 7D is the 50 f1.4.

Thanks for getting back, yes i downloaded yesterday but i think it said version 6 maybe i should uninstall and install 6.1 also i have windows 7.

Also then it probably doesn't matter for the lens modules, but i wonder how 6.1 will do against ACR 5.6 when they release it for CS4?

Bibble is the only one from that list I haven't tried. DxO detail extraction is superior to all the other ones though--even with lenses that haven't been profiled for the 7D yet.

If you DL'd yesterday it should be the right one. The file still says 6 but in the help "about" it'll say 6.1. I'm also running windows 7 64 bits.

What happens when you point it at a directory that has 7D raws in it?

One more thing... do you shoot raw+JPG or mRAW or sRAW? It might have problems with those.

Third party converters are hit and miss with support for the sRAWs and mRAWs. I can't keep track of which does or doesn't. I don't use those. The RAW + JPG could just cause confusion if the file handling is badly programmed.

I did run into a file handling glitch with DXO where it didn't like it if I switched directories too quickly. To fix it: there are a couple of buttons at the top that let you choose thumbnails or details display for a directory. Switching it to details and then right back to thumbnails fixed it for me.

I've downloaded and installed the trial version just now (6.1.0, build 7520). I can see my 7D (large RAW) thumbnails, but DXO gives a message that the file type isn't supported. I'm using Win XP. Are you using 6.1 build 7520 to edit your 7D RAW files?

i did download the right version for win and it says version 6.1 trial for 31 days..i will try this program.

it is asking also which camera i am using : 7D

what about lenses do i have to tell which lens i use..from the list i only use 50mm/ 1.4 do i have to download this too?

Check whichever bodies and lenses you own and it will download any modules that apply. It's a quick download.

That sounds right. I'll doublecheck when I'm home later on.

Other than the dissapearing thumbnails problem I mentioned above, I've had no other problems.

It's weird you guys are having so many problems with it, but not exactly a new thing when it comes to DXO unfortunately. With previous versions people had all kinds of installation, GUI and other issues. So much so that it drove many away from DxO despite the high quality conversions.

I like the DXO quality. It's especially good at correcting lens CA and distortion for lenses it its database. The price is reasonable ($109 USD through 12/31) if I can get it to work.
