POLL: How many would like me to leave?

At the bottom, there is a link to paypal to donate money.

First off, congrats on your fortunate fortune.

Envious of your gearlist, some tasty stuff there, but then I'm
pretty happy with my modest gear. Someday I'll have that 100-400L...

If you can sport a 1200, go for it. I want to see the shots.

While you're at it, spend some ad money here with Phil. Sponsor a
charity or something positive. Ignore the negative folks - they're
everywhere.

1 D60 and some nice Canon glass+ soon to have the 1200mmL.

  • Canon EOS D-30 & PowerShot S100
  • Maybe one day I'll take a decent picture. In the meantime, I'll blame the equipment. :)

Doug Walker..........who replied above, is what i was reffering to. what a list of stuff, that i thought was cool, but should have kept my mouth shut.

everyone should tone down the sigs as it messes up the searches. And of course that just leads to a lot of questions that have been answered so many times. I am glad you are staying. You've kept this place a little more interesting.

What if we insist he post a photo of his gear? Not that WE can insist on anything, but if he is to have credibility here, that would be the least he could do.

No excuses about 'not having to prove anything to anyone'. It will be very hard to take him seriously without that photo. How 'bout it BigList?

Alas, I too have jumped on the equipment list bandwagon. I hope you're truly impressed by MY list below! ;)

This new thread makes me wonder.
(Smallels, next time you take all that money out to do some
getting, ...get a life!)

...can you have somehow still missed the point?

We (I) am happy for anyone fortunate enough to have aquired a nice selection of Canon gear (or anything else they enjoy).

It is not "people that have a lot of canon glass" that "people don't like"! There may be any number of people on this forum with "a lot of Canon glass". it doesn't cause them to be disliked.

It is (was, if you've reformed ;-) the "coming on strong" that was offensive!(It has been described adequately in plenty of other-words, by a number of people, on this and other threads, so I think you can get-the-message if you choose to)
i guess i came on a bit strong, and obviously people don't like
people that have a lot of Canon glass, so i will no longer show a
sig.
the one that caught my attention was Doug's, who shows all kinds of
junk,
Yes, others have done this.

There are examples, ...and then there are "glaring" examples! By now I think you can guess which type you were perceived as.
which seemed to show up in all my searches because of what's
in hi sig.
So you do at-least recognize one of the drawbacks of this.
i'm hangin around, but will remain silent........no point in
ruffling feathers.
Speaking for myself, you're certainly welcome to be a part of the group!

And we WILL be interested in hearing about you gear when you get/are using it. You can avoid unecessary "ruffling", without being silent, ...most everyone else manages it ;-)
thank you for some of the kind replies, and sorry to those whom
i've offended.
you're all kind people.
Well, at least we're all KINDS of people ;-)

For my part, I think we've covered this issue, ...anything else I might add has probably already been said. I vote we move-on.

When/if you get the 1200 let us in on some details, ...it would for-sure be a rarity!

I am working on a modified(wheeled) folding tripod for scope/camera use when hiking extensively. You might need something similar for that big-boy.

Good luck with it.

(...and if you never get it, hang around anyway, ...your value/participation here doesn't depend on "blowing anyone away".)

Larry

Before you go silent, can you tell us where you are getting the 1200mm and what the price is? I'm really curious.

Thanks,

Nicely said!

Just want to make a comment about sigs other than the obvious. As someone who is out there working I think it best not to advertise what one might have since you never know when you could be visited by a camera thief.

In New York you can get special plates or at least you could for your car that were NYP for NY Photographer which supposedly meant media don't tag me. It also meant, hey look folks here's a car with a trunk full of expensive camera gear!

I don't even use a sign on my windshield indicating media as I don't care to be broken into or get my car trashed by someone who doesn't like the press. Bad enough without telling everyone and still getting broken into. At work we have had entire cars stolen then ransacked for the gear in their trunks. Btw if you are out there working and don't disable your interior trunk release it might be worthwhile to do so. Also if you can lock your folding rear seats....

Yeah I know Mr paranoia here and heck I even live in Canada (for whatever that means)...

Kevin

Hi, think you already know where I stand. Hope you stick around!

Kevin

Hi Tedakabogie,

Yes, that's quite a nice equipment-list you have there, ...I like it better than most.

Re. Biggles:

Whether or not his claims are true really doesn't matter to me.
All of us COULD be dishonest here, and few are asked to "prove" anything.

What we ARE asked to do is to behave civilly.

Anyone who approaches the membership as a braggart, with the display of his/her ego the dominant feature of their "contributions", will probably get the cold-shoulder they deserve.

To let up-on Biggles a bit (like dropping my pet-name for him ;-), ...
He HAS said he doesn't wish to offend anyone.
He HAS dropped the ostentatious "signature".

He HAS heard from a number of members as to how to discuss equipment/technique/etc. without making a chest-beating "I'm gonna die with the most stuff!" act out of it.

As my recent post ("After all this")lower on this list indicates, I, for one, am willing to take him at his word (until proven otherwise), and will drop this issue, hoping that the ripples will die away, and we can go on with friendly info-exchange.

[A side note, ... I have found it interesting, though, that being unwilling to silently accept clod-like behaviour is considered "being negative" by some posters.

I just can't admire people who "...wouldn't say t if they had a mouthful".

I don't consider putting a nice-face on things that are actually somewhat ugly to be a virtue. It's not "being nice", ...it's deferring to a lowering of standards.

You get what you settle for.

I guess we all draw our own "lines".]

Best wishes,

Larry

be nice now...........
I'll try to be nice, then. Apparently you have a huge need for attention, but I have no problem with you being around here.

However, it would be nice if you'd stop putting yourself in the spotlight with worthless threads like this one. If you want attention, perhaps you could start show off some pictures or high-end lens samples... something useful for a change?

Don't leave, but show us photos with the big glass (600+) I would love to have the 600 IS for birding, but I can't afford it. So I would love to see photos taken with it, and if you do get the 1200, you HAVE TO send in pics. I don't think anyone here has that lens!!

Diane

I think it is okay for us to put all our photography equipment on our sig... no harm do that if you tell the truth ( I didnt mean that you are a liar). When you do a search and see that someone is owing that equipment you wanted, you can directly ask his opinion, for example : I am considering between two lenses... it is better to ask somebody who own both lenses and ask his/her opinion... it will be very helpfull. And I believe if I have some spare money to buy a lense, I will/can ask your opinion first... AFAIK you almost own the whole canon lense... :)

I hope that you can stay in this great forum and share to us about your experience with all of your equipment.... and if possible some sample picture taken by you.

correct me... but to "donate" means to give something... not to expect anything...

IMO this site (phi)l is giving us already quite a bit...

i have seen the link, but i think for what i consider a donation

i never thought of it this way, but now that i think of it in this way, you are quite right.

this is a great site, and i give out the link to it all the time, especially for people i see shopping for their first digital.
we are very lucky to have such a site that covers so much.
my donation will be sent shortly.
