... well I am saying that because I did a few quick comparisons with my F31fd and found that the F70EXR holds up quite well. Although a tad softer OOC than the F31 the chroma noise in the F70EXR is much lower and on top of that somehow Fuji manages this while retaining about the same amount of detail. While not a DSLR I'm amazed how well the F70 can do (with still subjects) using this mode. Even in P/5MP mode against the F31 it still does quite well. I am hoping to get some comparison shots up for your observation - but work comes first - argh!
P.S. I'll try to sneak in a few S90 shots as well.

The DCresource review has an example of Pro Low Light mode, unfortunately not with comparison. It must work well, because this was at ISO 1600 and shows very little noise, although sharpness might be compromised.

the pro low light takes 4 quick shots?
That is the way it does it, then it uses a software algorithm to make the four shots into a single image. Here is the (empty) bottle of the wine that we drank with the Thanksgiving meal eleven days ago, taken with an F70exr in the dim lighting provided by the unsupplemented illumination of our dining room chandelier, hand-held, but with my elbows resting on the table. This would have required a single exposure of nearly 1/2 second. EXIF reports ISO 1600 at 10/65 second at f4.9.

Yes interesting results there ... but the Canon S90 actually still beats the F70 by a whisker in my tests (for low light/not DR) and of course the ability to shoot at a full 10MP and at ISO800 (f/2) where the F70/31 need 1600 (f/3.3/2.8) is a nice thing to have.
I think more tests remain to be done to accept the "F70 ... need(s) 1600 ..." as a premise.

When shot in Pro Low Light mode, the F70exr reports ISO1600 to EXIF data recording. However, the results do not exhibit the noise associated with straight ISO1600 shooting with the F70exr. Four images (perhaps each one exposed at ISO1600) that are combined to negate the typical ISO1600 noise present in any of them: is that ISO1600, or is it something else?

Photofreak7, how are the colors with the S90 when using ISO-800? All the photos on review sites show the S90 throwing away a ton of color and detail for ISO-800 and ISO-1600.

The much older Panasonic LX3 looks better by a good margin, and it is what Canon was trying to go after.

I've noticed that the Pro light mode seems to zoom in the subject. At first I thought I had stepped closer to the subject but when I tested it again I found the same problem (compared to P mode). Does anyone know why this mode does this? Both shots were done at 5mm but the Pro light mode shot looks like it was done at 6mm.

It needs room for image alignment. Obviously, it truncates the edges because they would be a mess ...
