Repost by request, Near Bode High Sierras, S602 PRO, PPPPPPPPOK?

First of all Lloydy it is nice to have you view my image. I do not think I am real popular with the rat pack currently but that is fine by me! hehehe
you are very childish. This is not a popularity contest. If it were a contest you would not get far insulting the audiance.
Maybe you should check out "Rat pack". It's not an insulting comment. It usually refers to the elite. So maybe start your brain before engaging your keyboard and insulting Gary!
You apparently aren't aware of the flexibility of language, or haven't read many replies in some recent threads. I'm confident that "Rat pack" was chosen because of its potential as a double entendre, and terms that some use with fondness others use as an insult. Nikon Ninas come to mind as well as some other "packs" that are best forgotten. While buckshot may have overreacted a bit to Gary's fairly mild poke, you're definitely not helping things.
And neither are you!
You're only pouring gasoline onto what are currently only very small flames by telling buckshot to "start your brain before engaging your keyboard". That's advice that was more appropriate for you to have followed, but you didn't. There are ways to get a more peaceful message across without being quite as inflammatory.
And maybe you should try it.
That kind of response often shows that choosing one side over the other was the intent rather than promoting peace.
As you have done as well.

Perhaps you missed some other threads recently.

Links below, but you'd learn more about the OP's recent meltdown if you review them in context to the posts in those threads both prior and following these specific comments. Plus, there is an entire history which led to this.

He continues to overflow, or leak, into other threads. Without that knowledge I could see how you would (incorrectly) conclude what you did, but it would only be a logical conclusion from an ill-founded assumption which the threads below should clarify.

Simply put, "rat pack" was meant to imply a pack of rats in the usual negative connotation. I was ignoring it, but want to set the record straight based on your initial take.

It wasn't capitalized as "Rat Pack," which could be complimentary as you state, though the OP is not one who can ever be counted on to be accurate, grammatically or otherwise.

Check out some other threads around here, you will see why "rat pack," and...
  • "dumb and dumber," and
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=33866516
  • "5'4" guys who work at McDonalds" (paraphrasing), and
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=33872221
  • "mudslingers," and
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=33872408

...other septic effluent has refluxed out of the OP's mouth instead of flowing in the usual direction to be captured in the waste stream for proper flushing.

He could have simply reposted for whomever requested it (personally, I wouldn't have, unless I was posting in the 'painting' forum), but he has to get in his shots.

After reviewing the above threads, you will see that the labels he uses towards others are meant in a mean-spirited, uncomplimentary, way.

Believe it or not, someone else innocently enough thought the OP's first language was not English and that it could be the reason for the problem.

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1012&message=33865619

That was also incorrect, but for someone just tuning in, one should always give the benefit of the doubt, until one can catch up and make one's own assessment.

I'm not being critical of you, that should be clear from above, but I do think you should know the facts since I'm not only a member of a "rat pack," but I'm also either "dumb" or "dumber."

I don't know which and it's causing a bit of an identity crisis for this 5'4" Mickey Dee's worker.

Now, who wants mud with their shake? ; )

OK, great, now that we have the teams decided and the lines drawn, when's the war? :)

Seriously though, Ron_M, I get your point here, its a fair point, one that is often missed but still a fair point.

Should we start planning an exit strategy, that seems the prudent thing, no?

Take care, Ted

Hi Lloydy,

That is the original file once I edit it to my own satisfaction I do not keep the original=sorry. I would have nothing but images on my hard drive. If I think I improved the image I delete the original. However thanks again and FYI I think the posts you did here are very very lovely.

Cheers as you would say, Gary N W SFO

All of your hard work was for nothing, so I guess it's 'thanks for nothing Dave'.

'AND oh yeah, I don't know why I didn't mention that I had deleted my original amid all your wool-gathering which would have saved you a lot of time and effort in testing because in the end I think my photo looks boss, regardless.'

'As you know, I ask for feedback but do I have to agree ------ NO!'

Unfortunately, there is a definite pattern here. This isn't rocket science.

That may be true but at least I've tried. You haven't.

Wrong, unless it's a choice between concord and animosity that you're talking about. The only two people that were referenced in my message were Ron and buckshot and I sided with neither, only stating that one was guilt of a "fairly mild poke" and the other "may have overreacted a bit". Oh, I get it now. When you greatly overreacted, choosing to side with one and telling the other to engage his brain, you didn't like having your unfairness and animosity pointed out. Yes, if it comes to choosing sides, I'll take Gary and buckshot over you any day.

I'm really not surprised at your aggressive animosity though. Several months ago you also overreacted to a funny joke posted in this forum. To refresh your memory, it went like this :
Having a speech problem; I don't find this funny!!
Understandable, but stammerers exist. Do you think that most of them would prefer society to not acknowledge them, to be so PC that they shouldn't be accepted, and ban anecdotes or jokes that they play a part in? In this joke the stammerer wasn't ridiculed or made fun of. The "punch line" is funny because it shows how resourceful he was, that he was smart enough to be able to use his "speech problem" to his advantage. It's possible that some stammerers may not care very much for this joke, but I wouldn't be surprised if many more thought that it quite funny. If this wasn't a joke but a retelling of a real-life incident, wouldn't you like this guy? I would.
Perhaps you could let us know if you have a handicap and we could all poke fun at it.
My main handicap is that I inhabit the same planet as humorless grumps that would suck the happiness out of the world if they could, only to replace it with misery.
OK meathead lets start telling sexist and racist jokes! You are the moron!!!!
http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/readflat.asp?forum=1012&message=33350380&changemode=1

I wasn't aware when I wrote the above that the guy that posted the joke has a speech problem, and he said that not only did he think that it was funny but that the joke was sent to him by a friend that also has a speech problem. It's quite clear that once again when I tried to unruffle your feathers you chose to respond by attacking. I'd hoped that it was possible for some old dogs to learn new tricks but now I know better.

Please note something here. I did not name a single name here when I said rat pack. You know why? Because they know who they are! I posted a pic for comments and/or suggestions AND more baloney is flying. I guess some folks just must conclude they are part of the pack and perhaps feeling a bit guilty since I named no one specifically. And more specifically I do not wish to be friends with such folks that go on and on about nothing!

IF I wanted to be real insulting I might have said Gang of Five! But did I?

Honestly I am not looking for friends here but if it happens all the better! If not please everyone do not mistake me for "Ole Lonely Guy"! I am hearing from some really nice contributors to this forum for years via my email. Some tell me they like the images I post and they tell me when the don't like them and how I could improve on them. SOMETIMES I try what they suggest and other times I just don't agree and do not make the changes. Yet I do not get angry about their comments in the slightest. What I do not take to is ongoing arguments totally unrelated to photographs of the Fuji Cameras or personal attacks! Then I sling the mud back.

But always remember that "Out of the Mud grows a Lilly". So be it! I will have a few friends that truly are friends and many that are not proving to me by their antics and personal attacks that they are indeed not friends. Yet they will survive and so will I.

Am I mutated I don't think so but anything is possible. I know there has been a full Moon out there lately.

And last but not least I have asked a few commenting in here, not about my photo, to PLEASE NOT BE MY FRIEND. How else can I say it more nicely? Insofar as I am concerned with friend's like these who needs enemies?

Let's get back to commenting or the pics or the camera and leave the baloney out of my thread.

If Ted won't let you be Sammy, I'll let you be Sammy.

My Sammy was a Chameleon from Africa (R.I.P. little guy). He had a scaffold made of bamboo set into an open terrarium and roamed freely in my room.

I tied red yarn to him so I could spot him more easily if he went exploring. If he was off the scaffold like on a shelf or scampering in slow motion across my bed he'd give me this guilty look like "I know I'm not on my scaffold, but a Chameleon has to roam. Oh, and we're all out of crickets - pick up some more wouldja?"

Each morning he'd go to the mini-blind for sun.

One morning, many many years ago, I was particularly hung over and slept in. Ordinarily, he'd grasp the little aluminum slats and poke his head through if I slept in, otherwise I'd always raise the blind because those slats are slippery.

That morning he slipped. I heard him zip down the blind...clink-clink-clink-clink-thunk. He fractured his hip or had a dislocation or something. Sammy was a fighter, but he was never the same.

He dragged himself everywhere...the senior prom, homecoming, hayrides, even the Sadie Hawkins dance though no girl asked him.

Finally he succumbed. It was a good run of several years we were together.

I would consider it an honor if you would be...Sammy.

Ah Dotbalm, that's a touching tale. I could picture everything as I read through your comments. Thanks for sharing that, and for letting me be Sammy. :-)

Please let's not turn an issue that was totally directed at ME by a few or more into a battle with your friends over semantics! You were 100% correct that the Rat Pack referred to the elite of Hollywood entertainers. But please it is my problem and I do not wish you to get into hastles with old friends over what are my problems. PLEASE!

FYI I have always found you to be very fair, honest and direct. And a fine contributor to the FTF forum. I think of you as a friend but then that might be dangerous for you. Honestly please do not lose any friends over my problems here.

Man in the Mirror. And oh....this statement is very revealing. If a doubt still exists in anybody's mind that the rat pack comment wasn't an attack, here we have a self-admission of such. But it's okay, because names were not....named. And because people who are part of the rat pack are people that this person does not wish to be friends with. Hum...sounds like an attack to me for sure, Shirley.
IF I wanted to be real insulting I might have said Gang of Five! But did I?
Actually, there are many more than five in your so-called rat pack. After all, if not for Dave's olive leaf, this thread would have received ZERO responses, just like I predicted yesterday.

But his olive leaf lent the opportunity for you to 'dig one out' - a long, green one at that with the rat pack attack. Appears for one who is doing his best to avoid trouble, that he wouldn't sling out mud or long green ones.

Gary angry? Certainly not. Just....Scorched Earth angry.

Yes, nothing like getting mooned.

Nicely? Back to Jekyll. Or is it Hyde? I'm nice. I'm good. People love me. And I'm worth it.

After all, I'm the guy with the special computer built by Santa's special elves. If I push certain keys, certain people better watch out.
Let's get back to commenting or the pics or the camera and leave the baloney out of my thread.
In other words, comment on the photo and it better be good or there is a high risk of another meltdown.

NOW, you just commented that Ron was correct in his comments, that your Rat Pack referred to the elite of Hollywood entertainers.

Which is it? Hollywood entertainers? Or, the nameless rat pack because they know who they are?

Right. Only a couple of days ago, you felt the same way towards me. You're all for somebody as long as they agree 100% with you.

Sammy Davis, Jr. He's on the small side and was visually challenged. Here's my vision of the rest of the cast:
ok I am good with that
Kim, he has Deano written all over him. Dean Martin would be proud. Everybody loves somebody sometime. Handsome, witty and calm.
hmmm Good old Dean hit the suace I don't get that impression from Kim ... but the rest will do
Ted & Bill, can we say Frank Sinatra material? Swoon!
Ahhh old blue eyes
Dotbalm is Joey Bishop material for sure. Debonair, entertaining, sharp-as-a-tack-smart at the drop of a hat.
I will go with that
And you, the handsome Peter Lawford but you may have to share with Gus.
Baaahaahaa .... I will defer to Gus no one has ever accused me of being handsome :-D
Of course there was a less-known female section of the rat pack, but I prefer to be among the boys, but would be proud to wear the Angie Dickenson tag if anyone is going to give me hassles with Sammy......like you or Dotbalm, the 4'9" small-guy-wonders.
short people got ....nooobody :-(
And in hindsight, I'm wondering if that measurement was referencing height....or something else?
who knows ... very funny Jada thanks for lighting it up a bit....

Thats the "improved" version?

Wow, in all seriousness, and speaking strictly of photography here Gary, there are many here that could help you work these issues out if you give them the chance. I'm sure you must be seeing the same thing everyone else sees, or is it simply an "Emperors new clothes moment" in which case, I didnt say anything.

Nice suit though.

Lots of cameras: hundreds of dollars...

Deleting original files: priceless.

Of all the components on a computer, storage memory is inexpensive. A new HD vid card, RAM for a current gen PC, high end printer ink, they are not cheap.

However, storage in the form internal hard drives, external hard drives, naked hard drives, portable USB hard drives drives, even RAID 0 and 1 are fairly inexpensive.

Why work to get the exposure correct and fill the sensor with photons if you then walk away from the original forever more have a degraded JPG to work with. Assumption: you work with lossy formats only.

The thought that you would delete an original which unlike your 'imporved' JPG has not been further compressed in the ensuing save process, and not be able to go back with improved software, improved pp skills, fresh ideas is...well, I guess it's par for the course.

People improve at their hobbies. One's eye for composition, light, subject matter improves. Given you are a landscape photographer and given the variation in snowfall, foliage growth, even climate change, there is good reason to go back and view your photos. Having the originals allows you to go back and apply your new skills and technology or provide a reference for an area you hold dear. Even if the camera technology changes, you still have so many opportunities from which you are walking away.

Par for the course.

PS: Don't respond, I know you're not reading this.
