I have an EOS 50D, and I'm a new DSLR user. I am missing some information I can't found on user manual.
  1. Suppose I set a 30 seconds shots, but one moment after the shutter I want to change something. Is it possible to stop the exposure, or I had to wait untill it ends?
  2. About the same for self shooting countdown (self timer). Sometimes I forget my camera setted in selftimer drive mode, (down right in the following dpreview picture)

Can I stop the count down?
  3. Flash. Fill in or full flash exposure. I can't understand how to set fill in mode (shutter speed and aperture setted for background) or full flash exposure (only flash light visible) in various programs. Since now I use manual mode and make my settings, this works but i'd like to know someting faster using at least P, Av, Or Tv modes.

  4. Image quality. Wich is the faster way to switch beetween Jpeg Large Fine and Raw. I don't use other image settings, I am just interested in this two!
Thank you very much, Saluti, Roberto

1. You must turn the camera off - there is no other way to interrupt a long exposure. (But I could be wrong)

2. Press the AF/Drive button to cancel the countdown timer

3. The Tv and Av modes are always "fill in flash". The P mode is always "full flash".

4. You could set one of the functions of the My Menu settings to "Quality". But that is not much of a short cut since "Quality" is already on one of the menus. Maybe someone has a better way to do that!

Ok, thank you

Great, this works fine!!

Ok, I'll try!

Yes, I've tryed but I'm looking for something faster (if exist)...

Thank you a lot, saluti, Roberto
Why are you answering your own question???? Did a post get deleted??
I've find an answer myself!

The 7d has a built in feature that switches between any RAW mode and any JPEG mode with the press of a button.

See pages 61 and 195 of the manual.

He has the 50D and since he says he is a "new DSLR user" I doubt he is going to do a upgrade anytime soon.

That's right, I will keep my camera for a long, I don't like frequent gear upgrades. I had my film SLR for 30 years!

I think the fastest way is to open menu in my menu, but I don't like this settings to much... thank you all very much!

I've just find that I can assign quality screen to set button in shooting mode (via CF IV-3)! This seems to me the fastest way!! If I would I can use also the func button!

Another question. If I have accidentallt pressed explosure lock, how can I have a regular shot? Thank you!
Press any of the top buttons to change ISO, AF, metering mode - this cancels exposure lock...

Ok, I'll try!
There is a setting to force shutter speeds between 1/60 and 1/250 in AV mode with flash. If you want to shoot flash in AV mode without it necessarily being fill flash, you could do that. It will be fill flash, if your aperture and ISO would have given shutter speeds between 1/60 and 1/250.

Thank you, I have found it on manual, but my lens is the ef 85 1.8, so if there's not enought light (about -1 or -2 stop of the exposure set) I can't use 1/60 of seconds, is to slow and it is usefull only when is dark enougth to epose only for flash light

I’ve found more operating tips, not seen in the user manual:

High speed sync with canon 50D and a Speedlite 580EXII doesn’t works over 1/300sec with a 10 meters PC-sync cable, neither works over 1/400sec with a 20cm PC-sync cable. PC-syncing doesn’t fire when live view is engaged.
Bye, Roberto
