How about a running commentary on where people are finding good deals on the f717 as they appear. At this time the only deal I know of is Sony's free shipping. CDW is also taking pre-orders. Let's hear about deals from Dell, State Street or other reputable merchants as they appear.

as a humorous side note, I see that Sony has the 717 for $999 and the 707 for $1099.

A word to the wise... Before you buy check out the company on http://www.bizrate.com . Some of the companies that advertise those great prices have customer service records that will leave you wondering how they stay in business. In fact when you read the customer letters you will wonder why they are not in jail.

Like they say, if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Ok. I can probably do some sneaky shoplifting and get 717s for free! Yaaay! I'll sell one to you for $900. You heard it here first! You might even be able to get a pricematch at Sears. Just quote my crimering numbers, and....

You'll find the camera on sale at State Street Direct. I went into MySimon.com about four hours ago, and Sate Street is the only one that came back with a match. Yahoo Shopping doesn't yield any matches.

It shouldn't take too much longer for more retailers to start posting at least a modicum of information about this camera, but until then, your stuck with the few Sony-owned retailers out there (SonyStyle, ImageStation), and State Street.

To tell you the truth, I'd be more interested in a list of retailers that have the best warranty/return/defective record. Not that I don't think that the new 717 will be perfect...er...um...well, you know, just in case.

I'm pretty sure that $999 is going to be a going rate for a reputable local dealer.

I bought my S85 from Buydig.com, and while it was a good experience and a great deal, I now shudder at the thought of testing the Mack warranty. I thought I was having some focus issues, but it may just be the nature of the beast. I'm gonna ride it out until I get the 717.

I think for the 717, I would rather be able to pop into a Sears, Bestbuy, Circuit City, etc... and simply exchange for a new camera if there is in fact a legitimate problem.

VERY funny. Although I must admit that as a businessman who's been hurt by fraudulent customers and employees I don't see much humor in you thinking that a lack of morals is funny.

I agree 100% with Johnny B. I would only purchase the 717 from a local merchant like Sears that has liberal return policies and that offers a full replacement extended warranty. That way, if I have serious problems, the full purchase price will be applied towards another camera.

Great idea.....

Now, if you can find 20 people here ready right now to buy the F717 ??

If you can find someone to first buy my F707 for say $750, I'll join you in your quest for a group buy. :-)

why don't we see which reputable dealer will give us a great deal
for a group buy of 20, 30, or 100 units?
