just using a D100 : about 50 pictures. it is NOT SHARP !!! my coolpix WAS ABSOLUTELY BETTER than a D100 with the NIKKOR 28-85 AF and D100.
I re-negotiate to purchase a D60 from CANON ...
it is a shame from NIKON: very very bad;

I agree this is a troll but I'll respond anyway.

Heard about how soft the D100 was before I purchase it. I was a bit hesitant but now that I've had it for about a month and have taken not 50 but about 1500 pictures with it, I am not only happy with the D100 but I am impressed by its sharp pictures.

I am one guy who is thrilled to have the D100 in my hands. My only problem really is putting it down. I want to take pictures of EVERYTHING!!!!!!

Sorry, Glen, it is NOT A GOOD SOLUTION to put on the HIGHEST value (sharpen) because the flat file (TIFF or RAW) MUST BE at first level enough sharp (or not as with the D100 BODY): i NOW understand the meaning of the review in the FRENCH magazine "Chasseurs d'images" about the CANON D60 - FINEPIX FUJI S2 PRO - NIKON D100.

I'm still a fan of NIKKOR LENSES but the GREAT PROBLEM is about the CCD SENSOR having a "lack of ..." sharpen ....

When you compare a tiff (or JPEG picture) without the setting "high" AND the HIGH: it is horrible ...

I'm very disappointed ...

Why not look into the S2 then as a comparison? It uses Nikon lenses...

Did you try your camera on a tripod? It's a light body, so it's easy to induce camera shake...

Did you try comparing prints of the same subject taken with your CoolPix and taken with the D100? (probably not)

Regards!

I own the Fuji S2, a friend of mine owns a D100 BOTH take SHARP pictues. All things being equal, you would be very hard pressed to see a difference in a 11x14 print. BOTH ARE SHARP. If you cannot take a sharp picture with the D100 you will not take a sharp picture with the d60....OPERATOR ERROR!
It is a DEAD issue!

Funny, he says he owns Nikon but immediatly switched to Canon. Junk post. Can't be bothered with using the menu system to even put the sharpen to normal, high.... I think you should just go back and buy a 2.1 meg Pix Olympus and be happy. A P&S is what you need. If you buy a Canon it will be Canon bashing day there. Batteries have to short a life...... the D60's not sharp enough..... blah blah blah.

Sorry, guys I'm not paid by anyone but the reality is there: after 100 pictures elaborated with or without PHOTOSHOP or only with a flat file: the result is NOT ACCEPTABLE. it is NOT an OPERATOR ERROR because i'm using already 11 digitals cameras and i have enough experience (and a REAL EXPERIENCE) to tell that ...
THE FACT (only the fact) is there: the D100 NIKON body is a fantastic body in itself but the CCD SENSOR is a lack of ... sharpness"; I can make a PROFESSIONAL test with 3 others bodies: it is always the same : D100 has a problem; two friends have the same judgement like me (they have purchase together the D100 BODY)

I'm a professional and i am NOT PAID by CANON: it is not a junk mail but the reality; I'm still a great fan of NIKKOR LENSES like i already tell into previous replies; i IMMEDIATELY switched to the CANON because it is only better in sharpness; IT IS STUPID to tell that it is junk advice because it is obviously TOO EASY to tell this D100 NIKON product is bad ...

So, when you are able to read the comments of a famous german AND french PROFESSIONAL magazines : they have a deepest and negative advice BUT I STILL STAYING WITH NIKON ABOUT THE LENSES : that's all
I hope the D120 (?) will seriously correct this lack of ....

thank you for your understanding

What a great response! Picture in this case worth 10 (or should I say 6) million words. Any PS post-processing BTW?

--- one needs to shoot RAW and convert via C3 - one also needs the AF-S lens.

I know that RAW is as sharp as my D1x but JPEG is decidedly soft - and the high sharp is too sharp.

I'd not call it a disaster and it gets better with use.

Hey smartass, why do you think the pics from those other cams looked sharper? The settings for "high", "normal" or whatever doesn't mean anything other than what the camera is programmed to do. Thus, the setting "high" in D100, might as well be closer to "low" in another camera. A more saturated and contrasty image will also give the impression of being sharper. Did you shoot these other cams in raw format with low contrast and sharpening set to off?

50 shots you say? Please post one or two with comparisons from your coolpix. Full EXIF data.

What's that? Oh you deleted them already?

Thought as much.

Thanks for stopping by.

Now where did I put my "troll be gone"?

This is straight out of the camera and I'm not using as lens that is any better then the one you're using. You can see the acne and little hairs on his face as well as the texture in his eyes. This is not a soft picture and the camera does require you to read some of the manual and learn how to use it! I think you need to ask other people about their experiences with the other two cameras as they claim prints from all three are virtually undistinguishable.
