I am still blown away by the quality at higher ISO with the D100. I used to have an E-10 and at ISO 80 it was noiser than the D100 @ 800. Here are the stats:

50 1.8D @ 1/50s, f2.2, RAW, WB auto, Adobe RGB, no sharpening (Miranda actions later)

You know, we see a TON of cat shots on these forums.

I don't know what it is ... the handiness of the subject?

However ... I like this one. Great OOF areas, wonderful color in the cat's eyes. Even a great subject expression! :)

Color is good as well as composition. The only distracting element is the almost blown out highlight in the lower right corner.

And the demonstration of low noise is good as well (though it's hard to judge really well - my D1x ISO 1600 shots come out looking amazing when resized compared to the noise present when looking at them at full size).

Any chance of seeing a crop of the full size image so we can really see how much noise is there?

Thanks,
Micheal

Hey Sean,

Have you taken any shots with any fast telephoto lenses e.g. 200-300mm with the camera with higher ISO numbers? If so, what is the image quality like at these higher values.

Many Thanks,
Nighthawk

Thanks Micheal,

In the spirit of showing the original framing, I didn't crop the image for the forum. My wifes screen saver has much of the right side cropped off.

Here is a sample of the right eye. The color may not match perfectly as I went back to the NEF to get the full sized image.

I used the Nikon CS-PRO v2.0 sharpening action. Since I used no NEF sharpening, I used the High Intensity setting on the action.

Nighthawk,

I havn't done any high ISO work with long lenses yet.
