...that it is so much smaller than I anticipated.

For some reason, it appears so much bigger in online photos and ads. I don't get it. I really thought the thing was going to be the size of a Leica M series rangefinder. I was shocked to open up that box and find such a mini photographic tool.

Of course, my main tool is a 1D mkII so anything is compact compared with that beast.

Anyone else as shocked as I was or did you actually take out a ruler and figure out the dimensions like a smart person.

Some people are saying that is is too big. For me, it will be perfect, because I like to hold a camera properly, not like a mobile phone.

I will have an optical viewfinder for it, a lens shade - and today I discovered the upcoming 45 mm macro!
Good luck with your new camera!

I think the Size is perfect as is the weight it just promotes your photographic juices , You will take it everywhere and it will capture great Images I love it .
I,ve had the LX3 to small and fiddley
I Have the D300 to big and heavy .

This micro 4/3 is a revolution in my mind and i suspect i will be ploughing lots more money into the future lens roadmap.

Would like to see a Future semi pro model still compact with even faster focusing , No lcd blackout and faster Frame rate.
Faster Tele lens as well ie 14-35 F2.8
+ 40-150 f2.8

. . . A 40-150 f2.8 would be a very large lens. I'm not saying that no one would want one. Maybe even I would but it would be pushing the limit of what is practical I think for mFT.

Yeah, me too, The models they used for those promo photos must have tiny hands! It actually looks smaller than the E-P1 as well, but when you hold them up together that is not the case.

I never handled a G1 in person before I purchased mine. When I finally received and opened the box, I was surprised.

When I pulled out the body (still wrapped up in that white foamish baggy), I thought it was the lens, charger + cable or something else. I was really surprised to see that it was actually the G1 body... So tiny.

I still take the lens off from time to time and put the body cap on. Just to stare at the small size of the G1.

Dont know how I'd react to a GF1... maybe when it drops in price I'll pick it up, heh.

When I got the kit and pulled it all out, I was amazed at how small it is. For the last 18 months, I've been shooting nothing but Nikon D3 bodies with the 24-70, 70-200, and 400 2.8 lenses. So even the GH1 kit is tiny! :-) But the GF1 is a sweet little package....

Sye68,

Am I reading this correctly, you have a Nikon D300 and Panasonic GF-1? Can you explain please how do those two units differ? I would like to get the GF-1, I currently have a Nikon D40, but I really have no way of comparing quality of images, especially in low light.

in comparison to a shot glass. This thing is mini!

As new owner of a jacket-pocketable Sigma DP2, people's surprise at the small size of the GF1 suggests that perhaps the micro 4/3 concept should have been a mirrorless APS-C concept. That's the size of the DP2 sensor, and it is a comfortable "compact."
