What is your single most Favorite Pentax Lens ?

Very Interested to know about Pentax users all time Favorite lens and why ?
Primes or Zooms ? Character over optical performance ? etc etc.
.

But I'll just paste what I posted in another forum recently when a similar question came up...

...##################

Here's mine:

AF:

FA 77mm Limited
DA 35 f/2.8 macro Limited

MF:

M 85 f/2
M 20 f/4

I could list a dozen others, but these four will always hold ranking positions in my heart.

Here are my personal reasons for choosing these:

77ltd: This lens is The One Ring. You don't own it, it owns you.

35ltd: Simply flawless, and the most versatile lens I've owned.

M 20: Got kicked around on film for having soft corners, on aps-c, it's colors and sharpness and fun FL and small size make me smile ear--> ear.

M 85: A diminutive, heavy-elemented telephoto, built like a limited and with enough sharpness at f/2 to count eyelashes across the yard. My most 3-D lens after the 77. In some ways, renders more pleasingly than the 77.

.

both are great lenses, the DA35 has more uses (macro), the DA40 has higher IQ and AF is much faster.

I bought both so I could figuere out which one I like better. I decided to keep both.

DA70mm Ltd. is my fav. it has e very pleasant perspective and is versatile beyond being just the perfect portrait lens. it's also an awesome available light lens for shooting stage performances etc. great for landscape and for playing with bokeh...

it's a real gem.

Just curious why the OP wants to know...

The results of this straw poll surprised me for both the spread of the answers and the solid win for the DA35. I conclude,
  • relatively few people own FA LTDs
  • the DA35 really is as good as I thought it was :D

I bought DA 35 after DA 40...didn't like it much, but I'm starting to loving it. I can't get rid of DA 40, tho...so I'll keep both for now :) If I ever have to sell one, I have no idea whichone will go.

I have the Super-Takumar version and like it also,i use it like a macro lens with ext. tubes...works great...and sharp!

Hi

Because I posted a question about Prime lenses and was curious to know if Pentax users were in the pentax system because of the primes .

In fact thats a new question in it,s self , Would Pentax users be pentax users if it was,nt for the Fantastic prime lens choice ?

I voted for the FA43 before, an image from it

But, FA 77 is no slouch either....actually any Pentax limited will give you such images.

I actually lied, it doesn't even have to be a limited. Pentax lenses are special, like even this F135/2.8 which will never make anyone's best lens list.

The following is not a great image, but at the beginning sharpness is more important, so I'll post it here. Again with the F 135/2.8 which may not even make the top 10 list for some......

One thing I regret about my time with nikon is I sold this lens and see no way of getting another..

Fantastic build quality, fantastic image quality in sharpness but also that special rendering..

it's got to be the DA55-300 only because my other two pentaxes are the DA18-55 and DA50-200.

After a couple years of shooting I am realizing I take mostly tele photos or close ups.

In the future I hope either the DA* 60-250 or DA* 300 will be in my bag.

I came to Pentax for reasons that are more or completely unrelated to primes. Also completely unrelated to SR, since that wasn't available at the time. I just like how the camera felt and worked. This famous article by Mike Johnston helped confirm my feelings:

But now, sure, it's the primes and the ability to use SR with all of them - including the 30-year-old "M" lenses that are also among my favorites (M28/2.8, M100/2.8, M135/3.5) - that will keep me with Pentax for as long as possible.
