Here's two of my first shots with the U-10. Great quality build. Incredibly fast start up. No lag reading 16mg stick. Great user GUI. Not quite as small as I had envisioned. Only one major negative. Incredibly poor battery life!. 6-12 shots and you have burned a set of two AAAs. Regarger is of the 13hour breed. So I haven't tried rechargables, yet.

Hi Ed,

Yeah, the battery life is a problem. The rechargeables seem to last a fair amount of time, however, if you can wait the incredibly long time to charge them.

Wonderful pic of your dog -- what a look!

Why is your microwave on the floor, btw?

Does it take 13 hours to charge them EVERY time? Or is that just the first one or two times?

That's still unclear. As I had written here, the Sony Stamina batteries must have charged around 48 hours total. I was convinced either the batteries or the charger was bad. Then I used the camera at some function, and took lots of flash pics. Out of perverse curiosity I decided to recharge the Sonys, and by the time I got up the next morning they were done. So maybe it was just the first few times. I'm going to try to use the camera a lot while out today and recharge before I leave for vacation tomorrow morning. Will report back from wherever.

If you take two regular 5-piece packs of gum and tape them together, you about have it. Also on Sony Style it looks a neutral silver. In hand it is a decidedly feminine pearl with pink overtones.
Not quite as small as I had envisioned.
1) That's the first time I've heard anyone say that!
2) What's the matter with the dog? hahahahahahah..

That's good news. And Sony sells a rapid charger for $39 ($15 with your registeration rebate)
Why is your microwave on the floor, btw?
You asked: My wife is a guidance counselor. I bought it for her at Sam's Club for $45 because she said she needed one to heat her lunch at school. Now she is scared to bring it to school because it is technically against the rules because it uses electricity and if everyone had one the school system's electric bill would be higher. So there it sits, in limbo, until she gains the courage to put it in a plain brown box and bring it to school. I vollenteer to deliver it. I am 6'2" and 260lbs. I don't think anyone would tell me anything, but she wants to do it her way.

Hey Uly:

It seems to be every time with the "supplied charger" sony does have a "rapid charger."

What registration rebate is this? Actually, I just need to get something faster whatever it costs. This charge time is driving me crazy, even if it's "only" 13 hours. Maybe I'll look when I'm in the States next week (oh, tomorrow, I guess).

LOL! I doubt anyone would stop you ! But wouldn't the microwave be a benefit to everybody? I should think they wouldn't complain.

Hey Hellen:

In the states they have a blue slip in the box that says, register and get $20 off accessories at SonyStyle. You also have to take a survey but $20 bucks is $20 bucks.

Hey Gabriel:

No the USB port is just the standard way for Sonys to download pictures direct from the camera rather than use a memory stick reader.
-EL
any idea if it acts as a web cam? since its got a usb port?

Ed,

Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it was you who suggested getting some 700 Ni-MH batteries. I think you provided a link to Thomas Batteries on the net. Well, I took you advice and ordered 4 Kodak batteries and a Kodak charger. Takes 3 hours to fully charge. My first impression is that the Kodak batteries are much faster. I used a 128mb memory stick and I could almost shoot one right after the other. Thanks for the tip. BTW... cost was about $45 for everything including shipping. I am satisfied that It was a good investment.

Hi Dave:

Wasn't me, Dave. I am actively looking for an alternative to Sony's 13-hour trickle charger. I will follow up on Kodak. Thanks for the lead.
