Believe me you will not be disappointed, I sold my Canon TX1 Motion Jpeg this TX7 is light years ahead I've only had the camera for a couple of day's but so far I am thrilled. Just a tip, download Klite Codec Pkg (PC) this will let you play back the .MTS files with the Windows Media Player any editing can be done in an external program Cyberlink,Vegas etc...I am now selling my FZ30 no need for it this cam does it all.Use the AVC over the Mjep. Still keeping my Nikon

Codec experts warn against installing codec packs, but the KLite one does seem to be one of the best if you must weigh down the system with a whole load of them in one go :)

Canon A-eighty since 2004 (13,000 shots), Pan.FZ.eighteen (5,000 shots and counting) & Pan.FZ.thirty-eight (29aug09)

I've had no problems, just be sure to unistall any previous drivers. You do need the processing pwr for the advanced codecs, 2 of 3 computers I have will not display smoothly, dual core is the minimum.

Window 7 handles it great natively, and Windows Live Movie Maker can quickly and easily convert the mts files to wmv or avi. It was worth the upgrade for me - I have been very pleased with Windows 7 overall, both 64 and 32 bit versions.

Seconded ... WIndows 7 64 plus WIndows Live Movie Maker is quick and easy and has replaced my MAC Mini and iMovie as my editor of choice ... kudos to MS on this one ...

Just might upgrade myself been holding off, sick of converting everything, finally got through 17 analog tapes of my boys growing up.I have to say again how well the TZ7 performs , the Canon 960 with the same chip as the G series had good video but of course limited zooming took it back.Check out the TZ7 on Vimeo look for the Pink concert or the basketball game zoomed, not as good as a dedicated 1080p but for a point and shoot with zoom terrific.

I've seen some stunning videos with great sound on YouTube ... I've also seen some videos with terrible sound. What concerns me is that I saw a video of a sound check from a guy who had a bad one first ...

I find the sound a bit tinny on mine ... a tendency to be over-sensitive in the mid-bass ... so, how is the quality control on these? Are there a lot of duds with bad microphones? Or is boominess in a closed room something that does not happen in open space at a concert?

Great video ... not fond of the audio. It's ok ... but a bit muddy / tinny.

The vid that really blew me away is this one ... wow ...

This one isn't bad (way too much shake, but that's operator error) ... the sound is about half way between the other two ... great, a little mid-bassy ...

Loads of concert footage done by me here:

The audio does depend on many things but it is generally not bad at all. I usually give the bass a little boost when editing.

The camera does tend to lose focus completely while filming, though i guess that could be expected from any camera/camcorder trying to focus in low or varied lighting conditions.

They still have not improved on the focusing in Movie mode (low light) that's the only problem I see with this cam, considering its still one remarkable little camera. That Metallica vid is very good looks like it was done with a high end dedicated HD camera.

Good stuff ... the video is amazing, the zoom is staggering :-)

Audio is excellent except in a few cases ... that's gotta be crappy audio systems ...

One trick I noticed for poor light is that you can back off the zoom one click, which does not seem to change the view, but which seems to force a refocus ... that works.

Anybody thats had the TZ7 for a while if you use the manual dial setting (little red camera) instead of IA for movie mode can you not set the focus for continuist focus, seems to stay in focus when zooming in and out.
