OPTEKA .45X Wide Angle Lens for the LX3

The unit is marketed by Amazon here as being for the LX3. The box is generic and does not say "LX3" and I suspect it will fit most any cameras, if you use the proper adapter.

The unit is still available from Amazon.com here:

My kit just arrived this morning. SWEET! There is going to be a learning curve, for me, to get the most out of this combination. I might be using it tomorrow in the studio and tomorrow night on the bar scene for some band shots and video. I know it will be useful, one way or the other.

Thanks for the heads-up on this combination!

Wait, I'm confused. I still need a DMW-LA4 adapter tube?

If I understand correctly, the adapter tube which comes with the Optek screws onto the Panasonic adapter tube. Is that correct?

I was under the impression that the Optek adapter tube negated the need for the Panasonic adapter tube. It sounds like that was incorrect.

Can somebody confirm?

Thanks,
clay.

You unscrew the ring around the LX3 lens and then screw in the adapter tube supplied with the Opteka lens. The Opteka lens is then screwed onto that adapter. You do NOT need the Panny tube or any other adapter tube.

You can use the tube supplied by Opteka without the Opteka lens to mount 52mm filters or a supplemental close-up lens.

The adapter tube now comes with the lens for $29.95 (US), at least when you purchase the unit from Amazon.com. See specs, taken from the amazon page, below:

Technical Details
  • A .45x wide-angle converter DOUBLES your angle of view, allowing you to get twice as much in the picture
  • High Definition² - 2 times the resolution of standard high definition lenses
  • Exclusive SureGrip composite material is used around the barrel. This material is exceptionally non-slip, yet soft and easy on your hands
  • Digital Multi-Coated to reduce the appearance of lens flare and ghosting caused by reflections
  • Adapter included, lifetime warranty

ah well there you go! Thanks Bill, Clay will be happy to know this.

By the way I just got Lightroom 2.0 (it instantly upgraded itself to 2.5) and LX3 RAW images open perfectly awaiting development. Its great just playing with it tonight!

One thing I have been meaning to ask.

I lost the lens cap for my Opteka .45x. Anyone got any hints of where I can get another? or what I can do. Right now I have use the soft black cloth bag that maybe came with the Opteka or some lens I got to pull over the lens on the camera when I am not using it.

Also has anyone attached a filter to the Opteka?

thanks,

Jess

So...how's the Macro part of this lens ??

Anyone try it.

I think it's ment to be used , with the LX3 at full tele zoom

Very interesting adapter. The barrel distortion is adorable, not too much, but makes the perspective distortion less aggressive.

As far as I know, a 0.45X adapter doesn't always get 11mm out of 24mm. In fact, these images don't look like 11mm shots. You can check, for example, voigtländer 12mm shots at flicker.

There must be a way to identify the real FOV and focal length?

I am reading your opinions of the Opteca 0.45X with much enthusiasm and I am wondering if these lenses are better than all the other cheap makes on the market. I ask this because generally speaking most of the blogs and forums on camaras don't speak very highly about these lenses including RAYNOX which is one of the most expensive of them all .I havn't seen any write ups specificaly about Opteka ,which is why I ask. Here everyone is saying great things about these lenses-----What about the telephotos 3.3X Which is black and the 2.2X , Has anyone tried any of these????????

Hi Bill,

Thank you for the information. Just to be sure: FZ18/28/38 have a thread of 46. The Wide Angle lens as mentioned here should fit on them too?

The threads on the FZ18/28/38 are not meant to add conversion lenses ,to it

Only filters

to add a wide angle conversion lens,or a telephoto conversion lens,or macro ,etc....you need to buy an adapter that connects to the BODY of the FZXX....not to the LENS

How would you power down the camera, with these attatched to the lens?

The lens will not be able to receed back, possibly damaging your camera

Not to mention ,the extra weight on the lens assembly, it wasn't designed for .

So,UV filter,or a Polarizer filter...can attatch directly to the lens

Anything lager,heavier....you will need the adapter, that connects to the body,of the camera

i asked the same question and basically the consensus was that the telephoto lenses don't work very well. pictures don't come out very clear and lots of vignetting.

I have just aquired an Olypus Wide angle Converter 0.7x and a Canon tele 2.4x---I bought them second hand on Ebay--Exelent condition,Exelent price,I am waiting for the adapter ring to try them out--I own a coolpix p6000 so i probably shouldn't be here anyway, but the lens discussion caught my attencion---I'll let you know how I got on when the adapter ring arrives---
