I like to use shutter priority with auto ISO and a speed of 1/1000th of a second for football. Was a cloudy day here in Jacksonville yesterday so majority of pics were shot with high iso. I was impressed with the 300s' results.

Many of the pics below are cropped but for high ISO pics I think the 200s did a great job. Let me know what you think.

Cause the picture info does not reveal the ISO.

Move your cursor over the upper right portion of the photo and the photo will be overlaid with a template for you to choose photo size and has an icon that says "photo info". Click on that and you will see ISO info. For example first photo is 1600.

Overlooked that one.
Pictures are good btw, no doubt about it!

But I never doubted that below iso 1600 the pictures would be good. It's predecesor does it too.

What lens(es) did you use? Pretty darn nice work, I must say. Obviously, you had side-of-field access.

Only used the AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G. And yes, I had sideline access.

Guess I should have stated what I was comparing it to. Last year I shot with the same lens and a D40x. I find the difference in the noise levels at higher ISOs incredible.

Very nice, and a good testimonial for the 70-300 to boot.

One question, how did you get field access? Do you shoot for the team?

I was wishing I had bought mt D300 and 70-300. I think I could have gotten a keeper or two from section 142 :-)

I'm the I.T. Director for the Jaguars, so that's how I have the access.

Since my responsibilities include production of our webisite, we use my shots for our initial stories on the site following a game and they also augment the professional photographers work for other stories during the week.

With photography being a hobby of mine for over 20 years it's a task I relish each week. Am hoping to learn enough to pusue sports photograpy as a second career when I retire in the next couple years.

Well, you certainly have an eye for the game. Keep going. Maybe SI will pick you up as a freelancer, or the local paper will hire you out.

These are great pics.

Thanks for posting, now I will try to use these settings and see how it goes.
I wasn't sure about using the auto ISO before.
