I'd like your help. The stores don't open for a few hours and I have a soccer game to shoot in 4 hours. The pictures I took yesterday are on my memory card, but when I download them into my computer, only 1/4 of them show up. I've tried different computers, and nothing happens. But they're still on my memory card.

The other issue is about automatic focus. I have the camera set to center point focus and when I take pictures, different points activate. I have the camera dead center on my subject and she's out of focus because the left and lower left have lighted up and it varies. I've tried taking 3 pictures of the same stationary point and get different points lighting up each time!

any thoughts?

well, yes. first, try to access the images directly from the card. if they are not viewable, they only seem to be there. was this card used with another cam? did you format it in the 50D before using it? if you did format i would toss it. everything wears out...

there are a lot of options on the AF in the 50D. what you said would seem to indicate that you have not succeeded in initiating simple center-point focus. go back through your manual and check the in-cam options, paying attention to the custom functions. is this a new cam? have you done a reset? have you installed the latest firmware?

the 50D (mine, at least) is an awesome cam. take the time to learn about it, get it set up and then enjoy... you'll be glad you did :)

Thanks! Just got back from the game. The camera seemed to work better today without changing anything. I'd gone through my settings and everything was set the way it had been with success. Maybe the evening lighting was the problem. I don't know.

As far as the card goes, I did format it before using it. I've had it only about a month so I was hoping it would last more than that. I've used it a handful of times.

I'm really enjoying my 50D, but am sure I don't use it up to it's potential. I'd like to learn manual settings.

Thank you all!

Are you taking your filed direct from 50D Via the USB connection? or are you using a card reader?

It may be that the download issue results from some of the pictures being in raw format. Some software won't recognize the raw files and download them. You may need to download raw images via the Canon or Adobe software.

Are you shooting in raw or jpeg or a combo?
