fedex.com says my camera is on the truck for delievery...whoopie! my 602 gonna be here today.

Anyway, I meant to do this prior to the arrival (have the 16mb smart media that comes with it, then a 64mb smartmedia from my old camera) but I am going to purchase a 256mb CF. What brand or model do you recommend.

I've herd some bad and some good.

Any input would be greatly appriciated!

Jeremy,

I have a RiTek 256MB CF card. They are made by RiData. Before I got my 602 I had heard that many people had major trouble recording video to CF cards in general (except for the microdirve). I however dont' have that problem. I can fill all 256MB of my card with 640X480 video with not problems at all. I can't give you much other information as I have only had my 602 for 3 days.

Hope this helps

I have the 512mb Ridata CF. I posted my experience with it. See link below.

Mine too. I hope you have better luck than I do. Purolator has "lost" mine. I'm still waiting...

I got a Viking 256mb CF to use with mine. No problems at all. Got it from Amazon, as it was cheaper there than anywhere lese reliable.

I myself couldn't pull the plug and get a Ridata or Ritek, since I couldn't find it at some place I had "good feelings" about, although a BUNCH of folks here got them and love them obviously.

I didn't pop for the Micro since I'm short on funds, like a lot of folks.

But I didn't really have a warm fuzzy when I read the Fuji Manual and it said something like it onlt "really" recommends SM or a Microdrive. No mention of a 256, 512, etc actual CF card.

But, I'm clicking away and saving pictures, although maybe a couple of milliseconds slower than with a ridata.

I got my camera yesterday, filled the 256mb CF I bought three times so far learning the camera, and already wasted the batteries that came with the camera.

Anyway, I wound up purchasing a PNY 256mb CF from my local CompUSA. I can record the whole length with video and it's just a normal speed card. I decided to purchase a normal speed because I am really not going to be taking video that much, but as I found out it worked anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions,

Jeremy

You what? Is that VGA video?
Did you actually record the whole card, or did it just say it could?

I checked it's site. says: "up to 16.6mb/s transfer rate"
This is the same as Ridata/Ritek. (burst. 7mb sutained read, 3mb write)

... So you have a 20x card!

cheers!

Not very importamt. But the cards are Ridata cards, produced by Ritek :) Ritek is a major company in Taiwan (pretty sure, not 100% some asian country :P) who also have 1 of the biggest CDR factories (and probably more then that).

I read all kinds of reviews on trying to make a decision on what card to buy. At first I was going to buy the microdrive because of size and possible video recording. Then I read some information about the speed( write speed and initial spin up time) of a microdrive versus a compact flash. Shortly after some time, someone posted about the Ridata CF and their ability to record intirely on the CF. That person did it twice and all was good. I made my final decision to go with Ridata CF because of how fast the card can write and the ability to record intirely. No one else did any personal reviews on other brands. As soon as I got my 602 and card I did the same test three times and I could record the intire capacity. I needed a card that could write quickly, have large capacity and be able to record video using all the capacity of the card. It performs flawlessly. I take action shots and this card is the one. If you don't take action shots then most card would do. Write speed is 20x and read speed is 28x. Ridata is the fastest CF over all. See following link: http://www.dpreview.com/articles/mediacompare/ . The downside with smart media is 128mb is the largest capacity. The down side with microdrive is it is slower for action shots and it uses more battery juice for recording and playing back.

I was told it was a standard 4x card. PNY 256mb CF is 20x?

Jeremy
Hum, I did the first time. I did it again and it started with 219s available. It broke and said buzy at 153s, and again at 87s, and 21s :(

I bought the card from CompUSA for $129.00

I'm going to try it again after super (wife yelling it's time to eat :))

Ahh... I see the Lexar 12x also has a 16mb/s burst rate. The
sustained rate is the important one, and I could not find a stat for that...
