Welcome to Kodak Challenge 61: Patterns Around Us
Here is the link for the new challenge:
http://www.pbase.com/kodak_challenge/challenge_61
The submission period begins today, 4th November and will end on Monday 30th November (unless we reschedule it again).
The voting period will end a week after the submission period ends.
I've kept the password from the previous challenge. Warren can change it if he wants - I don't want to stuff up and lock the galleries like I did once before ;-(
Now some ideas to get you started: Patterns occur in nature and in maufactured objects and images. For example the spiral of a shell, snowflakes and frost, fallen leaves, a row of shopping trollies or parked cars, wood grain, textiles, floor tiles - the list is endless and patterns are part of our environment and everyday life. You may include the pattern element as a background to or as part or the whole of the main subject of your photos. Patterns may be random and organic or strictly regular or geometric. Look around you.
Here are some examples from previous challenges to get the creative process flowing:

OK that's my bit. The rest was cribbed from Warren's Challenge 60 post.
@@@@@@@@ RULE CHANGE @@@@@@@@You may submit up to FOUR photos in each gallery.
Old-timers can skip the remainder of this post.
If you are new to Kodak Challenges, you may find it helpful to read the Idiots' Guide at http://www.pbase.com/kodak_challenge/idiots .
The detailed rules for Kodak Challenges can be found at http://www.pbase.com/kodak_challenge/rules , but the basic rules and procedures are described in the rest of this post.
@@@@@@@@ HOW TO SUBMIT A PHOTO @@@@@@@@
You do NOT need to log into Pbase. In fact, things work better if you are NOT logged in. You DO need to have cookies enabled.
To submit a photo, open the Competition or Exhibition gallery and click on "edit this gallery" at the top of the window. You will be asked for a password. Type "pixelcount". With any luck, you should then see a screen for uploading a photo. After you have uploaded a photo, you will be able to edit that photo as long as your cookie does not change. Things that may change your cookie include logging into or out of Pbase and changing your password. Also, if you copy a photo from one gallery to another, you may lose the ability to edit either the copy or the original, so don't do that.
If you need to edit a photo but discover that you have lost edit access, the edit password is audacity
After you have submitted a photo, it's nice to post in this thread that you've done so, so that people will know to look.
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
And here are the basic rules:
The chall1) The competition gallery:
*
You may enter photos you took during the submission period.
*
Photos not taken during the submission period may not be entered in the competition gallery.
2) The exhibition gallery:
*
You may enter photos you took at any time.
In each gallery, you may have no more than FOUR photos at any one time. You may delete any of your photos and upload additional photos at any time during the submission period provided that you never exceed the limit of FOUR photos at one time.
You may edit or retouch any photo that you have previously uploaded and replace the corresponding photo at any time during the submission period. You do this from the "edit image" page corresponding to that photo at Pbase, which does not change the position of the photo within the gallery.
Except for editing or retouching a previously uploaded photo, all photos must be uploaded at the end of the gallery.
The size of photos must be limited to keep us from using all of Pbase's disk space and thereby motivating Pbase to stop hosting our challenges. Therefore, photos must conform with at least one of the following restrictions:
1.
The longer side does not exceed 800 pixels, and the total size does not exceed 200 kilobytes.
2.
The shorter side does not exceed 700 pixels, and the total size does not exceed 300 kilobytes.
If possible, please include EXIF data in photos in the competiton gallery. You can do this in Photoshop by using "Save As", not "Save for Web". Usually, a JPEG quality level of 7 or 8 is about right. Please do not use a higher quality level than is necessary to preserve the visual appearance of the photo.
Thanks to Pbase for the new security features and for hosting the Kodak Challenge galleries!
Anybody may submit photos. The photos may be taken with any camera.
