I am so upset (Pentax K-x)

Enjoy your Canon!

By the way . . . Canon makes a few defective models, too . . .

So does Nikon . . . Olympus . . . Sony . . . Panasonic . . . Samsung . . . Casio . . . Fuji . . .

I do understand its a Jeep thing . . . thats why I bought a Dodge!

In the past 10 years, I've owned the following cameras:

Canon 10D > 20D > Rebel, XT > Nikon D40 > Nikon D40x > IstDs > K110 > K100d > K10D

I can only speak from my personal experience but I've only had issues with Pentax. Mostly battery issues and high noise / banding / hot pixels. Maybe I've just been lucky. I don't know. Don't get your feathers ruffled because you don't want to hear anything negative about Pentax. If they don't get some sort of positive or negative feedback, they won't know what to fix or keep the same. There are things I don't like about Canon and Nikon also - mostly the price and no SR. There is a reason most professional photographers use the brands mentioned though. Like I said, I personally like Pentax - but it doesn't mean they don't have issues of their own.

Seems to me that you are the one with ruffled feathers.

Considering that you are the one that came on here whining about your camera instead of calling up the retailer and arranging for an exchange!

Are you still tinkering with it?

Or have you done anything about it yet . . . ?

You'd better hurry . . .

That's the problem with online purchases . . . you typically don't have as much time to return or exchange as you do with a local store!

Actually, I set up a return yesterday when I received it. I was jut posting while I was tinkering with it. UPS is picking it up today. I was also annoyed because I had it sent next-day air and was planning on going out this weekend to shoot - besides the fact that I'll probably lose the $100 promotion. Otherwise, it's life as normal.

I refuse to believe that at any time (in the past, presently, or future) a Pentax product has ever been faulty. And , if that were the case, it will be quickly dismissed by noting that Canon and Nikon also have their problems.

Yup, ouch to them. lol

I noticed in your original post that you mention returning the K-x to Abe's. Is this Abe's of Maine? Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but isn't Abe's known for selling Grey Market goods?

You shouldn't loose the $100 discount if you do an even exchange.

It probably will depend on how the store processes the exchange, if they show shipment one as returned and then do a re-order then I suspect the buyer will be out of luck, but if they can do it without alerting PayPal then it should be OK.

After putting up with the high ISO noise and banding from my previous K10d, I decided to order the K-x. The sample high ISO images I've seen seemed excellent compared to previous models.

Long story short....

My K-x just arrived. I open the box, insert the lithium batteries, attach the lens, turn on the power and.... NOTHING! The camera is totally dead. Ok, so maybe the batteries that came with the camera are dead. So I open a brand new pack and insert them, turn the power on. Nothing - no lights, no noise. It's DOA (and yes, they are inserted correctly). I am really ticked off. The camera is going back to Abes tomorrow. I really had high hopes. I will most likely be going back to Canon. So much for quality control. I am really ticked off.
I think it's fortunate to get a totally DOA camera as opposed to one with intermitent problems, of course #1 choice is perfect out of the box! :)

Ok everyone. I've decided not to jump ship yet and give Pentax another chance. Abes will be exchanging this for a new one and I'll still be able to receive the $100 promotion.

Thanks for all your help.

If the next one is also dead, I will jump ship - instead of going down with it. :)

I think you are alone in that belief
And , if that were the case, it will be quickly dismissed by noting that Canon and Nikon also have their problems.
You are not alone in that, however, from either side. Such as Pentax going out of business from other brands :)

Good to see you back helping the few dare to have the audacity to ask for a little QC. But, did you move from Chad to the Sudan?

LOL tvw
