I only say this out of love for all the forum members. But seriously, what else can you call this place?

A few people have problems with their DA* lenses. Before you know it, dozens of people who don't even own the products are decrying the death of Pentax because of their terrible quality problems.

Someone doesn't like to wait 10 seconds after changing batteries in his new Kx. Before you can snap your fingers there are scads of posts decrying the death of Pentax because of their flawed designs.

Post after post after post -- most written by blowhards who never owned the affected products and never intended to -- venting vitriol and bile at Pentax and all the "fanboys" who point out the obvious. That they don't own the products in question and have never been affected by the horrors they write of.

Lately, posts from worrying fools who read all the early posts from people who were never affected in the first place, and are now joining in and adding their shouts of the terrible QC problems and horrible design problems of the awful Pentax company owned by evil Hoya.

The few voices of reason (like Jim King) who actually have experienced a problem and are working with Pentax in a positive way to resolve it -- are shouted down or ignored. How do you keep your unflappable cool, Jim? I need a bottle of it!

I have loved this place and the posters in it a long time, but I think this forum has sunk to a new low, and I definitely need a "time out."

Go to the Pentax SLR forum message listing, count how many threads are of a complaining nature. Its not a big deal. Your post is one of the less than constructive ones.

Dont get your panties in a bunch because a small part of the forum is about the problems people experience or perceive. If you cant see the great posts, interesting discussions and beautiful pictures posted here, you are blind.

Hardly surprising given human nature. Perhaps a few are deliberate attempts at brand assassination? Where's my evidence? None really, but when I see thread titles that look like they were written to put off the person researching a camera or a brand, it makes me wonder.

Take a break and remember we are complete without cameras, computers and keyboards. :)

That's all you can do about it I think. There may be real problems and to post them here is a good thing. But the repetition-chaos and tone of some of the posts and the lack of real (statistic) data make it less helpful.

Yesterday I heard a discussion about a new book 'Egos and other inconveniences' from a psychologist. One of the subjects was the tone of the postings you find on Internet, they named it 'emotional incontenence'. I think too harsh a term for this forum but I know some other forums (discussing news-items) that fit in perfectly! I'm going to buy the book, maybe it makes me understand this phenoma a bit.

...the lack of 'Remote Assistant' for the K-7! ;)

If all else fails... just get a bigger lens!

you forgot to list people who do not have problem.
Sorry but your post is not fair because it shows only one side of coin.

My solution: pay no attention to posts containing the words:
  • deal-breaker
  • unacceptable
  • doomed
  • pathetic
  • boycott
and minimum attention to posts containing
  • best
  • better
  • worst
  • worse
unless immediately followed by the word "for" or "at",
for example, "what lens is best for X purpose"

furthermore, very little attention to posts containing
  • high ISO noise ;-)

You could have used that time productively by sending you lens in for evaluation.

Unfortunately I have to disagree. The people on the list have been around for a long time if not very long time and have a history of not being whiners, blowhards, and fools as the OP so succinctly put it -- indeed they are among the best contributors here.

I have to wonder if Joe has used too coarse a brush to paint the problem...

I think that that the ones on Russel's list with legitimate problems are not the ones that Joe is talking about.

my point is this ,(and same point probably OP is making), the people who do not have problems do not post and if someone going through forum will only read the posts about problems.

So if you only count posts of problems you never know what percentage is that problem. For example could you tell by these problem posts that what percentage of total lenses has that problem. 1% 5% 10% or 100%.

Only conclusion that could be made is that a problem exists. That all. But then all the brands have some problems isn't it. And it is also a fact that making a perfectly perfect 100% problem free equiment is nearly impossible. Some QC problems would always exists.

Menno
.

That's a brilliant description.

.

and like everything else on Internet, this is up to you to use our own judgment to filter what's written here.
You can also use the DPR filters to ignore some of us if they bother you.

It's like life on Earth: take the best you can and leave the c..p alone.

Now, when it comes to those spitting on Pentax or those "fanboys" upset as soon as someone dared to write a critic against Pentax (should I say their ego?), I consider those 2 categories to be the same and ignore them.

You forgot to add fanboys and buttkissers to your list. Taking it solely upon yourself to call into question the opinion or fact from ANYONE who Dares to Disrespect Pentax for any reason. Who are you to even question whether any one has or does own product they are speaking of? Or has (or has not) experienced any issues with said products? Regretfully, I've sunk to your kindergarten level of name calling and for that, I'll take a time out from paying any attention whatsoever to you.

"Now I must decide whether to send it in for service while it is still working or wait for it to fail again. I suspect that Pentax will not attempt a repair if it arrives in working condition. I'll call them again to inquire."

Thank you
Russell
