I've been using a Crucial 256MB CF Type I card in my new (1 week old) S602Z.

The camera has been throwing up random "Card, Read & Write Errors" with increasing frequency. It happens every time I switch on to review photos now.

The nice chap at Fuji Technical UK says I need a type II CF card and that's the reason for my problems (CF type I is too slow apparently!?).

Has anyone out there been using CF Type I cards without problems, i'd be grateful if anyone could let me know please?

My card checks out with scandisk ok & i've never had any read or write errors in my PC. I also formatted it ok in the camera.

Many Thanks in advance

The only difference between type I and II is the card's size (thickness, to be precise); the specification is otherwise identical. Fuji recommends the CF slot for Microdrives only -- which, incidentally, are type II cards, but would perform just as well if IBM managed to squeeze them into a type I card.

I get this only if I ejeCt the CF card from my laptop without 1st using the software to close the card read down. It never happens when put into my USB card reader attached to my PC.

No problems with either my robanton 256 or sandisk ultra 256. well, one time my dad turned off the camera while doing video and it erased the card, but a quick format later everything was ok.

Michael,

I bought a Ridata 512mb CF card (type ii) and no problems at all with it. I've filled it up several times so far, and works great even with "videos" that fill the entire card. I've poped it out/in serval times from the reader at the wrong time (still learning) and no problems. With microdrive 1 gig you need to be carefull with it because it's actually a small hard drive and I didn't like that idea so I didn't buy that.

I look at this way, on memory (computer, camera, whatever) always by the fastest and best you can afford.

You can get a Ridata 512mb for $192 at: http://www.mypcmax.com/ They delivered the CF card in 3 days, no problems at all.
