Just picked up one of these for when I do not want to lug around full DSLR (5d) kit. Pleasantly surprised by amount of configuration possible. C mode on dial is same as 5d which is great plus the S button and the assignable ring function really assist in the handling of this camera.

Interested in how folk have set up their S and Ring functions. I have set up as follows (I always us aperture priority):

S Button - ISO
Ring function - Focal Length

Not convinced about using the ring for focal length when Canon already provide a perfectly good zoom lever but doing this changes the way the dial control works and makes it nearly impossible to accidentally dial in EV (which can be a problem I have found).

I don't always shoot in RAW but like to have the option quickly available when I need it so I made the C mode my RAW setup. I have the shortcut set for WB. Everything else is pretty much stock setup. I like how the screen reminds you what ring does what when you switch modes. Awesome customizability in this camera.

I set mine exactly the same way. I'm loving my S90

I also shoot in AV mode on my S90.... In this mode I figure you need easy access to each of the following;

1. Aperture
2. ISO
3. WB
4. Exposure compensation.

The S90 provides 4 buttons / dials to do this....

I save all the below to Custom mode.....

1. Aperature > front ring.... (Just like a real film camera SLR lens)
2. ISO > Press Func Set.... (will always default to ISO if saved in Custom)
3. WB > Short cut button
4. Exposure comp > back dial

Cheers!

The review for the S100 says:
The 'Ring Func' button is customizable, and can take on any of the functions offered by the S90 / S95's 'S' shortcut button. We suspect many users will set it to control ISO, and leave it there.
Is that really what most people use it for? I almost always shoot in Av and and I use the front ring for Exposure Compensation (the thing I most often want to change) and the read ring to Aperture (which I'm usually leaving at "widest," but sometimes need to bring down for DOF).
