Anyone have any experience with the Monster AA 1800 mAh batteries and the MBE5700? I recall reading some threads earlier with "fit" problems with some batteries, but the Monster brand (the guys that make the audio cables) was not mentioned. I bought two-4 packs of 1800 mAh this weekend, and before I open the package, I thought I'd check here :)

And yes, I know, I know, I know... "go Mahaa" but, they're not down the street, Circuit City is!!

They will not take the batts back if opened. I know you don't want to hear, but goet the maha or power-x. Thye work well in my MB-E5700

I have some of the Monster AA batteries and they are excellent. I use them in my power hog 950 and they are the longest lasting cells that I have tried. I don't know if they will fit the MBE5700 or not, but if they do, it will be a winning combination!

Let us know what you think if you decide to try them!

Hi Frank,

I think the problem with some of the AA cells is that they have an almost flat tip (used in cell packs), whereas they should have a very pronounced nipple.

With this in mind, you could have a look through the packaging and see how the nipple compares in height to other AA cells that you know are working in the MB-E5700.

Yours sincerely,
Michael Offe,

I woudn't take the chance you can go to mahaenergy, com get the powerex 1800 and have them at you house in two days if you live across country if you are closer you might get them the next day. I also agree with Michael if the positive nipple is prodruding enough you should be ok. I think the issue with some is the plastic coating comes in contact with the plastic of the pack preventing a good contact with the pos. terminal.

I should have added- they actually outlast the Powerex AA's in my 950... I have 3 different types and the Monsters are the longest lasting- period.
Let us know what you think if you decide to try them!

:::sigh:::::

Ok, I was a bit cocky..I looked closely through the package, said "yeah, these are fine...." Charged 'em up all day, read the threads here tonight and thought "huh oh..." I just put them in the MBE5700. THEY DON'T WORK!!!!!!!!! When compared side-by-side with the Radio Shack (which DO work just FINE), I see that the Monster batteries are a couple of mm longer...but the nipple is shorter. It LOOKS like it's making contact, but I guess it's not. DANG!!!!!

Someone here said "if the pack is open, they won't take it back." Hey, I gots news for you, as much as I've spent at Circuit City over the years, THEY OWE ME. I'll get 'em back if it kills me :) (I'll keep you posted).

Thanks for all the good advice, guys...wish I had listened.

Hi Greg,
I was meaning to write it to Frank since he asked the question. :-)

Ah heck Frank I am sorry. I probably would have done the same thing. I have heard some people here say how they like the monsters and I was thinking about getting some and try them out. Let us know how well Circuit City takes care of you.

All I want to do is take pictures....

and yet ever since acquiring my Coolpix 990 I find myself submerged (drowning) in the "techno" world of compact flash, batteries and chargers.

I confess that I have been using "off the rack" batteries and a charger I picked up at a local electronics store for over two years now. But when I hear what you guys are saying, I want more power!

It sounds like the Kodak 1850s/ Powerex 1800s is the way to go. Is there a specific charger that MUST be used with the Kodak 1850s? Is there a specific charger that MUST be used with the Powerex 1880s?

And the big question, and this is just for my own edification, what would happen if I charged either of these hardcore batteries in my run of the mill charger?

Thanks in advance for your patience!

Well, took my non-workable Monster batteries back to CC today. Of course, as fate would have it, lost the receipt, too. So, here I am with opened packages of perfectly functioning batteries, no receipt, and wanting my money back. What do you think the odds of THAT were?

Me: "hello, I'd like to return these batteries. They don't work in my camera."
Circuit City: "Ok Sir, are the batteries defective?"

Me: "Honestly, no, it's just that there's a very small size issue that won't allow them to fit my Nikon."
CC: "Do you have your receipt, Sir?"
Me: " Uhm, no, I seem to have lost it."
CC: "No problem, Sir, how did you pay for them, and when did you buy them?"
Me: "I used my Check Card and bought them on Sunday"
CC: "Let me see your card and I'll look the purchase up"
"Yes, I see it right here. Ok, Sir, these packages were opened, then?"
Me: Yes, they were.

CC: No problem, Sir, I've credited your account back with $42.xx and I'm sorry these didn't work for you, will there be anything else?"
Me: "No, just thank you and you guys are super."
CC: "Well, thank you Sir, come visit us again."

Now THAT is the way a business should handle its customers!!!

Now, off to find the RIGHT batteries :)

I dropped by my local photoshop today, and scoped out what kind of batteries they had. The saleman showed me some Sunpak batteries, 1800 mAh for $10.00. I looked at them and said "nahh...guess I'll just have to order onnline." He said "if these don't work, bring 'em back." So, based on that and the price, I figured what the heck. I've charged them up and put them in the camera and they work!! I can't speak for performance obviously, but at least I have juice :)
