... and buy an GRX -- despite all the whining and disappointment (including myself...) in this forum. I am open for a change (actually, not quite, because in the beginning I will just have an improved GX200...).

Therefore, I offered my GX200 for sale (not here, of course, because that is forbidden). I must admit that I also sold my Sony A700 with a lot of equipment just recently. Subtracting a Dobson telescope, the money might just suffice for what I already had: a GX200, but somewhat improved (see above).

Such is life, and I would like some people to also stop whining -- nobody HAS TO buy the new camera, it's just another option...
Best regard, Gerd

many of the people sticking their head in here dont normally post here anyways or have Ricoh cameras, so "bah" on them. Hence my post about he movie quote earlier here that seems to have baffled many :).

Ill have one soon enough, with both modules and all the accessories. If that counts for anything.

Carl,
You posted a lot today... Can you please point me to that specific post?
Thank you (also for your informative site -- I was a Sony user, too),
Gerd

Hopefully, Ricoh will sell more than two units in Europe -- and I am already (happily) married... But I know what you mean ;)
Best regards, Gerd

PS: Each year, we travel to a small campsite in the Velay (close to Le Puy), but a year ago, we spent a week in Paris (after 30 years...) where you seem to live.

you know what i meant... i am happily with another as well, so i promise not to jump you ;)

that area is gorgeous! you'll have to let me know when you're there next summer...

we can trade modules for fun!

I am torn between this and a GRDlll,it all depends on how this feels in my hands, if it feels good I will get it with the S10 cartridge and the VF and case.....there goes the budget, but if I find it too large it will be the GRDlll with 21mm lens.

I have a GX-100 and a GRD3, I am very tempted by the GXR, I believe it is due to be released on December 10th which happens to be my birthday, perhaps a good enough reason to buy myself one.

Like Cam (Wildeone) I'm very interested in the GRX/A12 but I have a new GDR3 and a Leica M9 on the way, not to speak of a GRD2 with wide- and tele-converter that I havn't yet got around to selling.

I like the GRD3 a lot but can't see what the GRX/A12 will do for me that I can't do with the M9/Summilux-50 pre-ASPH. But if the GRX/A12 turns out to be really outstanding, and if it is clear to me where the GXR is actually going I could contemplate eventually selling the M9 and buying the GXR, with a view of buliding up a system, with one user interface, that would let me shoot at 21mm, 28mm and, ideally, 40mm EFOV — but at this stage I'm not sure of the sensor size I would want for that.

Ricoh needs to sharpen it's marketing and show a roadmap for how the GXE system will develop, including how they see the position of the GRD3 and of future GRDx cameras as either standalone cameras or modules for the GXR. The marketing message is too confusing right now. As part of this, Ricoh also needs to explain more specifically what "optimizing sensor and lens" really means, and how this specifically improves quality and ads value. As of now this is too vague in Ricoh's marketing massage, as has been pointed out by Thom Hogan.

I probably was too emphatic in writing that:

Actually, in the GXR 14-page brochure, Ricoh states:
Designs optimized to make the most of lens and image sensor capabilities
–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
In order to make the best use of the inherent power of the lens and the
image sensor, the ideal solution is to combine both in a single unit. Consider,
for example, the low-pass filter covering the surface of the image
sensor.

The dilemma faced is that while the filter helps prevent color noise and
color moiré, increasing this benefit results in an ever greater sacrifice in
lens resolution. Traditional interchangeable lens systems must use a single
low-pass filter for all lenses so they are unable to avoid situations where
the filter effect is excessive or inadequate. With the GXR, on the other
hand, we can design a low-pass filter optimized for the resolution of the
specific lens. In this way, Ricoh has succeeded in effectively preventing
color noise while minimizing filter influence on lens resolution.
This is a compelling case for the closed sensor/lens units; and, if this translates into improved image quality, would justify a price premium.

PS: Each year, we travel to a small campsite in the Velay (close to Le Puy)......
That brought back fond memories, 6 months driving and camping throughout Europe and England etc and one of the most fascinating places was Le Puy. That was 25 years ago, don't know if I'd make it up to the chapel on that volcanic spire now.

LOL, Guy, i know!

but my strongest memory from that area is actually the configuration of the bathroom in the restaurant/shop at the bottom. a proper loo for the ladies, right next to an open urinal for the men. i almost pinched some guy's bum, thinking it was my boyfriend...

Bah on yourself. Are you a self appointed moderator for this group?

Chill down! The GXR is a rather baffling new piece of equipment. It is only natural that it is discussed. And it has some rather obvious potential theoretical problems .... that people want to comment on.

Now - if you now have decided to get one - then you might benefit from reading all the discussions. Maybe you learn something. Or maybe not. In any case - it is not a disadvantage that the camera you are going to buy is discussed.

hello Mitch

Yes , you are right about the 40mm. That would have been an immediate order for me

Ricoh must have done its research before coming up with the 50mm MACRO but I think that a bright 2/40mm would have been a better sale

This is a GREAT normal focal length and this would have made it a serious fight with the Gf1, Ep-1&2, Dp2
Too bad. I am not a big fan of a 50mm

hey Joel

I think the grd3 with a 21 and a finder ( to compare apples and apples) is going be less pocketable than the grx with the s10 module and evf
I think it comes down to what focal you need the most

if 28mm is not wide enough for you ( it's not for me) maybe you should get the s10 if you can live with 24mm instead of 21mm

That brings back fond memories of my little Rollei 35 pocket film cameras with the pull-out lens. Yes, 40mm is about right for most occasions if stuck with one focal length - 40mm or 35mm or in between. Just seemed right for me. No big noses for people like 28mm does when too close.

Not that I recall, are you voting me in? Last I checked, I just replied to a post, is that against the rules or does what I say bug you?

Perfectly chill, I think it is you that should have a drink and put your feet up. Obvious great choice in word. I have no issue with discussion, but shouldn't there be some basis behind the backhanded compliments to the GXR here, such as say, oh I dunno, actually having tried the camera or handling it before making an opinion?

I guess if you don't want a more objective opinion, thats just fine :).

Not following you there, so Ill hold comment based on the fact that it isn't making sense to me.

@carl: This remark seems to be related to me, the starter of the thread...
