Crazy 14mm wide from Tbilisi/Georgia

The perspective distortion does not make it very attractive. The camera standpoint sort of does not make it work. The weird brightness in the middle, and the strong light fall off towards the corners also do not make it much better, as a stylistic element it does not make sense.

The building on the left (background) is a very disturbing element. It sticks out like a sore thumb, get rid of it.

wish it were wider - little more space on top and bottom of image.

Considering the (probably) limited selection of vantage points, you've got a nice shot.

I agree that the modern house on the left edge should be cloned out, but the perspective and wide angle of the shot prompts a second look at the image.

In an ideal world, there would have been a higher vantage point - about as high as the statue, perhaps - and maybe the higher vantage point might have been another interesting shot... or maybe not.

I like it.

We're a pretty tough crowd to please, sometimes. You would have gotten more positive comments if the subject had been your pet cat... :)

I think the image is quite striking, and you did a good job of using the 14mm focal length effectively. Such a wide angle lens is often quite difficult to use well.

Some subjects are extremely difficult to photograph and get a decent looking image; a fact which critics who've never tried it seldom consider. I always wonder how or if the critics would have done any better, if they'd been there.

this forum is famous for its critics
had you taken this with a D3X you would have been crucified
;)

this is a very striking photograph & one that deserves a bit more effort in post, though I think the perspective distortion from the UWA lens may even help it
try toning down the perspective distortion in post

fortunately you did shoot this fairly leveled, with tilt producing the bulk of the distortion

the newer versions of Photoshop have a fine tool to manage this & you have ample resolution to pull this correction off if you shot an NEF & probably could do a decent job even if you shot jpg

I'd be glad to give it a go, though to do a decent job, there is no substitute for the original file

you deserve some more positive responses.

I think it is a picture that would look better printed out at a larger size maybe 12"wide by 20" tall. It's hard to really evaluate it on a laptop screen. What I liked most was the fact that you happened to be there when the light just right. It made the texture of the stonework really stand out.

Nice shot! I like it.

The composition is interesting with the detailed buildings/lines texture in front and the cloud "rays" framing the statue on top of the heap.

Like Art said be glad you weren't using a D3x (better yet with a brand X lens). I think renting a helicopter and heli-dropping your cat in the image somewhere is appropriate to take this image to the next level

I agree,I think the picture is very sharp and shows fine detail, I like that.
I just got this lens, very happy to see that it gives a very sharp IQ

Thanks for posting.

Its a dynamic image with great lighting and a lot of pure power. Lens distortion with this wide a lens is not only acceptable, its flattering and one of the reasons to shoot ultra wide. Very dramatic cloud forms too. A very successful image in my book.

Very nice. Beautiful textures in the stone. Yes, the photo could be improved on top in terms of lighting (which you can probably do with your software), but a beautiful, and informative, picture nevertheless!
