Having seen the GXR samples...

I'm so glad I got up at 7am to include all the prices in our preview.

For the body and both lens modules and the EVF?

Yikes !!!!

My ordered GF1/20mm kit and EVF is looking like a steal at only $1075. This leaves me with $1000 saving for that zoom except that I'm probably getting the Pany 45-200 for only $285.

Sheesh
Be fair now, include the price of a zoom and a VF if you want to do a proper price comparison.

Really? shouldnt you check again? BTW, my m4/3 G1 sucks regarding DR. The A12 sensor will be a LOT better than m4/3. How do you fell about the rest? CA control and etc...and BTW again, i have a 20mm also...
I've just had a careful look through the 50mm samples with APS-C sensor for the Ricoh here :
http://www.dpreview.com/gallery/ricohgxr_A12_preview/

And I have to say, (apart from the bokeh, which does look very nice) I'm more impressed than ever - just how much quality we get with the E-P1 + 20mm f1.7... these beta preview shots look soft and dull in comparison (imvho).

Kind Regards

Brian

I think it was the first time I've seen so many 1600 ISO shots in a preview. IMO, the images look pretty good, at least up there with most DSLRs with APS-C sensors.
Indeed. Ricoh tweaks the AA filter for each lens/sensor combo, which of course cannot be done with a DSLR. Whether or not the end results can be attributed to this is to be determined, but the results are quite good.

Too bad you'll spend $1380 for a sorta' pocketable 50mm (equivalent) macro. Seems pretty high ... until you look at the Leica X1 which is $600 more and less flexible.

I don't understand the moaning about price. How much is the GF1 plus 45mm macro lens again?
There is a difference between a 50mm equivalent and a 90mm equivalent lens. Besides, with Panasonic you have an almost unlimited number of macro lenses you can attach to the GF1. With Ricoh you are locked to one, from them.

Beyond that, the preview at http://www.quesabesde.com/noticias/ricoh-gxr-analisis,1_5814 says that the autofocus isn't as fast as the GF1, and dpreview itself noted pre-release AF issues: "We're not going to talk about the performance of the contrast detect autofocus in this preview as this is a pre-production camera (and ours has some serious focus issues that we hope are not going to be seen in the final shipping product)."

. . . When to comes to actual sales numbers, this Ricoh is going to be a dead duck. Walk ins at the brick and mortars won't go for the ridiculous price
Ricoh is only manufacturing 5,000 of these a month. Don't expect to see one at a brick and mortar store, any more than you'd expect to see a Hasselblad or a Leica.

Not too sure how the GXR + 50mm module is more flexible than the X1, unless you are thinking of the potential to use different modules. But then, you'd have to spend more to get more modules, which kind of negates the price/flexibility comparison.

. . . If you reread what I said, you'll see that I did that.

Well, they are quite good compared to the size of the camera. It is however, as a system, almost as unusable as the Sigma cameras. To get the good sensor, you are fixed with a 50mm (75mm equiv?) prime lens... If you want other focal lengths you are given a compact type p&s sensor that does not make any better pictures than the lousy G11...

You can't use any lenses from any other systems, and you will be bound to either a mediocre lens and large sensor or a quite bad zoom lens and a compact sensor...

I really think Ricoh here have made a new system that takes the worst of both worlds! quality of a compact and practicality of large DSLR system...

For a system with such high hopes attached to it, I predict it will fail, utterly and completly.

Have you compared to the EP1 test shots?
I ask only because the test shots done by dpreview are ALWAYS lackluster.
