Many Canon owners have at one time or another owned one or several elphs

Just for fun...

Which ones have you owned?

Which one(s) do you currently own and use?

Which one is (or was) your favorite and why?

Maddie

Had the SD 800, 870, 880 and now the 940

My favorite was the 870; we've been through a lot together. I miss it in a way, and might just buy it again on eBay.

Funny, because I've also briefly had a S90, still have a G11 and a 5DII with a whole buch of L lenses but never got attached to them. They're all tools to me, but the 870 for some reason means a lot to me. I also had a 20D and a 5D, still no attachment there.

When you upgraded...

did you sell them? give them away? or did some of them die???

The A720 IS, which I still use.

A bit chunky, but a long zoom range and an excellent IQ.

I have, and have had a bunch of others, but the 720 remains the favourite for the occasional knockout 11 x 14 print.

Had the s400, truly loved it. It's pics look sharper and clearer than my recent pics (guessing that large sensor with the 4MP was something of a golden combination)...they just got that camera RIGHT.

It died. Still have it.

I have the SD550 (also has a larger sensor) and that's been through a lot, like the above poster. It died.

Looking to upgrade to another P&S. Those elphs are so great.

SD800IS, SD870IS, SD880IS, SD950IS, S90 (not really an Elph). I really didn't like the IQ from the SD800IS. The SD870IS and SD880IS were OK, but as one poster remarked, he didn't get attached to them. Neither did I. Not sure why - maybe too small for my big hands? Whatever, they were just tools.

I really like the SD950IS and even though it is mostly redundant to the S90, it has earned a place in my heart and gets to stay around. Takes great shots, too.

The S90 is different, but I like it a lot.

It's not really an Elph, but still small. My wife has the A710IS and I understand completely. Prints from her A710IS look remarkably like the ones from my G7.

Have had my SD 1100 about a year now and love it. Great carryaround when the SX10 is to much. IQ, macro, flash all very good and of course the size. IS works good and even 8MP it crops real good. And of course another nice thing is all Canons work alike. Battery life is also fantastic. Couple 100 shots on a charge. Can't say to much about it. What's not to like 'bout an elph. might just get another one.

I understand "attachment". Some things do it for me, others never make it. I had the Canon 20D, XT, XTi, and 30D. I really liked the 30D and we did form an "attachment". Sold off the Canon gear and got the Nikon D90. A wonderful camera and better than the 30D; but I have never formed the attachment. It's just a very good tool.

I had the SD870IS and liked it, but traded up for the SD880IS. A better camera, but I didn't like it as well. Now I have the S90. It's taking a while, but we're going to be very good friends. I have also formed an attachment to the SD950IS. Pretty much redundant to the S90; but I don't care - I like it. Besides, it takes great pictures.

I've tried in other posts to explain this "attachment". For me it works with cars, hand tools, golf clubs, hi-fi gear, electronic instruments, and cameras. The G7 is one camera I got attached to. Also, the Pro 1 and the S5IS.

My all time favorite camera is the Nikon FE2.

Its funny how the attachment thing becomes a part of it.

My first elph was the s400- GREAT CAMERA!!!

Passed it down to my son when the sd700 came out with IS.

When the s400 died- I passed the sd700 down, and got the sd850

Right now i have the sd850, sd770, and the panny tz5

I think the sd850 is probably a better camera-
but I'm much more attached to the sd770...

not sure why...

I tried to love the tz5, but I take it only when i need to get stadium shots- it just doesn't appeal to me- the form factor- the colors in print output - not a big fan...I'll keep it until something better comes along- but I will probably look to Canon when its time for that.

Maybe a follow up to the SX200- I just wish it had a viewfinder!!!

HAD the S400,410,500. Probably still the highest quality cameras out there. For taking pictures anyway. Video stinks, screen stinks. ( compared with todays )

Also had the sd110, sd200 ( still have 2 of these ) another great camera. Despite the 3.2 resolution. Had the sd500, sd550, sd700 is, sd1000 & sd630. I bought all of them used on eBay & resold them.

SD880 (used!) History = Started with an SD100, (upgraded to an S50), SD800, then an SD880, sold it to help fund the S90, not happy with S90 and missed the SD880 saw bought a used one on EBAY. I just like the ease of use, value for money and it produces pretty good photos. (I also have a G10).

Greetings

Currently using a Canon D10 "blue submarine".
A great all purpose P&S I can take to the beach and to the snow.
Scene modes are easy to use and the camera has decent optical qualities.
A nice pocket camera when I don't want to take my 5D dslr.

Regards.

I've sold them on eBay.

What I've started doing is saving photos of the actual cameras I've owned. It will make some good material one day many years from now.

I loved my 850... and I'm so sad I broke it. I don't think I will ever love a camera so much. Would you mention why you liked the 700 over it ? I've seriously considered paying the high price to get another 850 but without the warranty to back it up it doesn't quite seem worth it... I just bought a 780 and I'm hoping it will develop an attachment.

Its actually the sd770is that I like best- (the sd700is - I gave to my son)

I think its the classic boxy shape that appeals to me-

The sd770is has everything I was looking for - a simpler interface (I prefer the switch to the dial used on the sd850is) - it has IS - it has sleek geometirc lines- its tiny - and it has a viewfiner

and not least of all - great image quality

I can't say its the best camera - its just the one I like using most - so I carry it with me all the time - and I have become attached to it.

I still have the sd850is (until my son needs a replacement for the sd700is). The sd850is might very well be a better camera - its slightly larger, and has 4x zoom. My sd770is only has a 3x zoom.

But its the sd770is that I've become attached to...

different strokes...

:)

SD700IS, SD870IS and recently the S90. These ultra compact pocket cameras are all I use these days. A few weeks ago , I picked up an my old SLR Konika Auto-reflex T and it felt as heavy as a brick.....

We all have different standards I know, but I am amazed at the the I.Q. of these digital ultra compact pocket cameras. But then, I sometimes still stop in my tracks as I pass my flat screen color tv and marvel that I can enjoy such mind-blowing technology in the comfort of my own home.
I don't take any of it for granted.....

Which ones have you owned?
S110 (my first camera) which got lost in the mail on its way to my cousin.
SD550 (great little camera, sold it to my cousin when I got the SD800)
SD800 ( loved it for its 28mm wide but sold it to a friend for the SD880
it didn't do well for high ISO's)
Which one(s) do you currently own and use?
SD880 (here is where it stops) my favorite, lets go everywhere with me.
Which one is (or was) your favorite and why?
I took it to Font Hill and shot this at ISO800
Handheld - 1s f/2.8 at 5.0mm iso800

and one from my first pictures from this gem
1/640s f/2.8 at 5.0mm iso80

and what is your elph story?

Which ones have you owned?
SD700IS & SD890IS
Which one(s) do you currently own and use?
SD700IS & SD890IS. Well, actually I gave the SD890 to my daughter so I still get to use it.
Which one is (or was) your favorite and why?
I have to say though I prefer the 5x zoom and improved menu on the 890, the SD700 (4X) is my all time favorite. It is quality-built like a Lexus and to this day, the image quality amazes me. Of course, it doesn't do well at high ISO like my s90, but for overall handling and ergonomics I much prefer the SD cameras.

I consider the SD700 a classic and have no intentions of ever getting rid of it!
