I never knew my good old FZ30 could give me 'portrait shots' like these... :-)

All shots taken with external flash pointed to the ceiling. Post-processed.

I like the fourth one most.

Hello Robiro - I really like the sharpness of the eye with the shallow DOF. Also, when I try this with our cats they stare me down and then run. I like how in each shot the eyes are looking away from you with the look being from relaxation to focused intensity. These are all very nice and make a great set. I really can't choose a favorite. I think it is time for me to get the flash out and try again. Beautiful cat! Thanks for sharing.

I never knew FZ30 could give this kind of a shallow DOF. I am still in a state of shock! :-) :-) :-)

Yes, time to wake up from your lazy bed!

Splendid.

I love cats! I love your cat!! I love your pictures!!

Now, who reminded you to remove the sleepers from its eyes before you took those great pictures?????

Nice shots with good use of the external flash, which I find is a separate art form. My favourite is the first one. I like to use the ext. flash in manual mode at low shutter speeds to incorporate some ambient light.

Very nice portraits robairo.

I also prefer the fourth one, which is lovely. Though it is a bit blue on my monitor. The other ones have almost a studio feel, as if they are book or magaziine illustrations. Perhaps the light created by that ceiling bounce was a little too flat. My two cents! :-)

He, the tomcat, did... :-)

That shot came out from the camera quite pinkish (for some unknown reason). I did not like so much pink and changed the overall color cast towards cooler colors. I believe I did not cross the line though. The picture still looks good on my monitor.

Liked the number 4 shot as well, pity his ears were cut off though. You stood back a bit and zoomed in to get the DOF effect I surmise?
There was no cropping on the number 4. This is the zoom (159 mm equivalent) I applied (in 16:9) and was astonished by the shallow depth of field (the lens were in AF macro mode) I got (DOF of approximately 6 centimeters - 2 inches).

I never knew FZ30/50 could do that. Next time I will go even further away (250 - 350 mm equivalent) while keeping F at 3.7. Perhaps I will be able to get to as low as a 3 cm / 1 inch DOF and produce that desired Leica-like shots... :-)

You get a lot closer to your subject than I do to mine :)
Dov, but most importantly, my subject gave me a written approval to take picture of him... :-) :-) :-)

Unlike your subjects, unaware victims of pure superzoom paparazzism... :-) :-) :-)
