Folks,

I have a S90 and am not satisfied with its IQ. I will gift it to someone.

I want to buy either GF1/EP1 but am not decided. I read the reviews on both. I like the GF1 but it does not have IS for the pancake and I really like Olympus colors.

I do not care for EVF or the flash. LCD on EP1 is not very good, but it does not affect the IQ.

If I put the panasonic pancake on the EP1, will I get the fast autofocus, very sharp lens, IBIS, and punchy color output.

What do you think?

If I put the GF1 pancake on EP1, will it focus as fast as the GF1?
Unfortunately, the pancake won't focus very fast on either camera (slow focusing motors in this one, presumably due to compact size).., however you're right about the rest. It's a killer combination.

Kind Regards

Brian

No, regardless of what lens (including Panasonic 20mm) you put on which camera the GF1 focuses faster than the E-P1.

GF1 does not have IBIS.

I am not sure how much noticeable difference will the IBIS make.

With S90, I can take images with 1/30 exposure time with no blur.

With my Nikon/Canon Primes such as 35 1.4, 50 1.2, down to the 24...No IS in the lens and obviously no IBIS with the SLR, and I don't need it. That's the benefit of having a fast prime. You can keep the shutter speeds up and the ISO down with that wide of an aperture.

It's my opinion that, in the case of the 20mm, your better off with the ability to take a hand held shot at 1/8th of a sec at low ISO than to focus a fraction of a second faster. It's been shown a few times that anything around 1/30th or lower is difficult to get blur free with the 20mm on the GF1. The whole focus issue is a little blown out if you ask me.

The best news though, is that either camera is fantastic! There is no wrong decision. Just buy what ticks the most boxes for your style of shooting.

I'm not saying that getting sharp pictures at 1/8 is not a good thing to have available. However, if your low light photography is generally of people no matter how steady you are at 1/8 you will probably get motion blur from the people moving.

it sounds like you already made up your mind :|

Yup.

EP1 body and GF1 pancake.

I can get EP1 body at decent price, but the lens is ridiculously expensive. Amazon lists it for $400 out of stock and %500+ from some vendor.

Still searching for the combo around $1100 (in stock).
