I know there are not alot of these out there but was hoping someone had one with some images for me to look at. Mine will arrive around the 12th. I need wide for interior work and this should be just right

I just picked up the 7-14mm last night and love the FOV you get from an ultra wide angle. I'll post some photos later today.

i can't imagine anyone not liking this lens. although i could nitpick and wish it were either f2.8-4.0 or at least a constant f4.0, i realize that compactness is a large part of its attraction and understand the compromise.

i've only had mine about a week and unfortunately haven't shot more than a couple dozen images with it yet just testing it out. but here's an interior shot at below 1/15th handheld that encompasses nearly 180 degrees:

It is a constant f/4 isn't it? The results look great, so I will probably take the plunge with it :)

. . . . but, using the E-3 . .

It is, however, my favorite wide lens for its clarity and minimal distortion. I haven't yet used it with the E-P1.

A GOOD choice, Greg !

very sorry about that. i got it momentarily confused with the lens that i haven't got yet, the 14-140 which is a variable aperture.

and as to the angle of view, it is the (very messy and overcrowded) room right behind me and this view shows damm near 180 degrees. i was standing perhaps 2' behind the music stand to the right and the domke photo bag on the left which are directly opposite each other which would be 180 degrees although i do see the spec sheet shows: Diagonal Angle of View 114°(W).

perhaps since i only shoot in 16:9 gives it more field of view? i am tentative to conclude this because i asked about this in another thread and several people posted that the aspect ratio doesn't add any extra field of view and provided deep mathematical formulas, but i am entirely convinced that shooting in 16:9 vs 4:3 or 3:2 gives a wider angle of view. after all, if you run a 4:3 image or video into a 16:9 hdtv you will end up with blank space on each side. this space is filled with content given a 16:9 input.

I would love to buy this lens, but can't find it. Only seen it on Ebay in Japan. I would order it, but I have no clue how much the duty fees will be. Where did you buy your lens, and does ANYONE have an idea of how much duty on this lens is in if ordered from Japan.

i got mine from amazon. ordered it around the middle of october and got it last week--about two weeks total. the status when i ordered said the same thing then as now: something like '... usually ships in 1-2 months'.

The GH1 has a different sensor. On that camera, indeed a shot taken with 16:9 is wider than a shot taken at 4:3. This is not the same on the G1/GF1. On those cameras the largest size is 4:3 and if you shoot 16:9 it is a crop from the 4:3 aspect ratio. On the GH1 in 16:9 it is as if you are using a slightly wider lens than the focal length indicates. Here are the pixel dimensions

4:3
G1/GF14000 x 3000
GH1 4000 x 3000

16:9
G1/GF1 4000 x 2248
GH1 4352 x 2448

I have done numerous Google searches. And NONE of the places in the USA that comes up, has this lens in stock.
A lot of places have them in stock now. Check out url below:

Btw, anybody have indoor low light venue pictures with and without flash? This will probably be my 2nd lens after the 20mm.

thanks for that explanation. i think the lx2 had a 16:9 sensor which i thought was fantastic. then the lx3 went to a different aspect sensor, but i thought shooting at 16:9 on the lx3 still yielded wider images than shooting at 4:3--but that might have been wishful thinking--a holdover from the lx2.

The LX3 has a 4:3 sensor, so while a shot may look wider in 16:9 they will have the same fov and number of pixels as if you had taken the shot in 4:3 and cropped to 16:9.

AFAIK, the LX1 & LX2 are the only cameras to have a native 16:9 sensor.
