Well the threads are about film and digital DUH, and I have an interest in the latter, and I don't need an excuse to post in a public forum. Just like I don't need to invent distinctions that I have never been awarded!
Nice try..LOL-now:
just answer the question for once-–I know its hard for you.
Why in the threads you post in do you NEVER answer the OPs question?
It's totally incorrect. I have seen it numerous posts. I have seen quite a few posts that he was the OP and had nothing to do with film.
Really....where?
It's not really the issue at hand, but in 1275 posts, D P O'niel "been the OP" (as in
started the thread) exactly three times.
- A serious post with his praise for a particular digital camera.
- One that appears to have been an accident, the result of hitting the "new" button instead of the "reply" button with before dpReview changed their interface.
- A particular vitriolic post in which he bashed Sally Mann as a "pornographer" and stated "Why this woman has not been imprisoned is beyond belief". He then went on to bash America. Unfortunately, his first and only attempt at "initiating" hate, instead of participating in it after someone else started it, backfired, with people who had not heard of Sally Mann looking at her work for the first time and saying "not porn", and "cool".
But the whole "been the OP" thing is just Joe Lavee's addition to this thread, a "narrowing" of Mark's observation (if I've got the 5 layers of attribution right) about D P O'niel never really replying to the OP of a thread in a constructive way.
I try to be constructive most of the time (although, I admit there are times when I miss that goal by quite a wide margin). Maybe I'm a stary eyed dreamer, but I like to think that people, in general, like to be helpful, that helping is a reqard. Dave appears to be actively helpful most of the time, and Mark Smith. Sure, sometimes we argue to the point that it looks like a cat fight, but we still respect each other. For the most part, we manage to separate the "opinion" from the "person". Even Joe Lavee is quite reasonable much of the time (especially in the warmer and sunnier parts of the year) and I have had more than one quite enjoyable discussion with him in both his "Joe Lavee" and his "Ludwig100" identities. But he's not as good at separating "opinion" from "person", and typically takes argument as a personal attack, especially in November (make of that what you will).
I'm not so sure about Mr. O'neil. I don't recall ever noticing his interaction with people and saying "now, there's a helpful fellow worthy of emulating or befriending". He appears to be a true "negative force". I'll go with Mark's observation: I don't recall Mr. O'neil answering any OP's questions, or trying to share information.
