Well I have decided to use the 10% Best Buy coupon and the Canon offer of $20, for owners of current Canon cameras to get the Canon G11.

I won't be selling any of the Gs I already own, just adding to the flock. :-)

Good luck :-)

Keep us posted.

Check for dead pixels on the LCD. My first G11 I bought from them, I had to return because of a dead/stuck pixel on the LCD screen.

I did a small test yesterday, pitting my Canon 50D with 18-200 5.6 lens, against my Canon G10. In all my test pictures jpg direct from cameras with just cropping, the G10 had sharper pictures in every picture then my 50D.

The 50D was good but the G10 was better. when you enlarged the pictures you could plainly see the sharpness of the G10 beat the 50D.

So I think the G11 will also be a good choice, and for high ISO pictures it seems to shine over the G10.

Of course it did. All P&S cameras have sharper OOC images than dSLRs. It's the one thing that puzzles those who move from P&S to dSLR.

Sharpness is something that can be (and must be) added to a dSLR image depending on output. That means that if you plan on showing an 850px sample, the 850px sample has to be sharpened appropriately after resizing. Personally I apply the same procedure to my G11 images as well.
So I think the G11 will also be a good choice, and for high ISO pictures it seems to shine over the G10.
The G11 is a great choice. But its choice cannot be justified compared to a dSLR as to OOC image.

(My cameras include 50D, 5D, 40D, and G11, amongst others.)

Thanks Olga I had not given this any thought. I am not buying another G to displace my DSLR, it has been much better in obtaining fast focus and fast shooting. I am going to the G11 not because I am unhappy with my G10, I just like getting the movable LCD and the higher ISO for low light pictures.

I bought mine only hours before I found out that I needed elbow surgery on one arm and that I'm not supposed to bend my other elbow at a severe angle, such as that when you bring a camera up to your eye. That left me with the only temporary option of shooting from the waist for a while.

It kills me to know that I cannot use my dSLR, especially since I'm going to Florida and usually do bird shooting there, but I was very happy that I chose the G11 with its articulating LCD and even happier when I used the camera and know it will keep me happy for a while. :)

Not surprising using the 18-200 which is probably Canon's worst lens, but try using a quality lens......even the DPR review states that high-end lenses are required to get the most out of the 50D.

Well I bought it and have been taking some test pictures around the house, From my first pictures IMHO the G11 out preforms my trusty G10. Picture quality is much better in the G11 pictures. All pictures were right from cameras and in jpg file format.

As far as material construction using non metal in G11, I don't see this as anything to really worry about. Non metal body on my old Canon A1 never failed, and material has improved a lot since the 80s.

Yes I feel the G11 is going to replace my G10 in everyday picture taking. :-)

Olga:

I shot you an email asking about 10% off coupon. I'll have to look into the Canon discount as I own 4-5 Canon digitals right now as well.

Best of luck on that elbow surgery. I'm in Florida (from Boston), and the weather is crisp but beautiful right now.
