I have read several statements elsewhere that Olympus cams map out hot pixels automatically without needing to send it in for service, is this correct?
Does this apply to all Olympus cams or just the high end D-SLRs?

Thanks

Pixelmapping has been available on all my Olympus cameras that I can remember.

My current cameras that have it are:

Stylus 800, SP-570UZ, Stylus 7020.

Don´t know about the other Oly cams but with my 520 it is a menu feature I can activate (but nothing that happens automatically). The good old UZI (C-2100UZ) was one of the cameras you had to send in to get hot pixels remapped, unless you used that little Russian program, described in this thread here:

I could mop out those hot little pixies running around my kitchen floor, but why bother? I have 3 cats that leave hairballs on the floor anyway.

Just kidding. I never have understood what this feature is for. Reading the post from 2003 that Rene provided added just a little bit of insight. So is this something we should do? I think the manual suggests doing it about once a year, if I recall.

The C-5050, C-5060 and C-8080 all have hot pixel mapping in the menu. I'll bet the E-3 does too. I cant remember.

If I were doing a lot of low key images or night shots with ast dark areas I'd want to know more about this. But I'm not exactly sure why?

On my Olympus E-510, I had a hot pixel (or pixels) that I would notice, especially when I was cropping. They would only show up some of the time (where we could clearly see it), depending on the image taken with the shading and colors. It could be a little aggravating...seeing this tiny speck interfere with an otherwise very nice image. So, in the menu we can map these pixels out. It's a very useful tool. I don't look for hot pixels, but I haven't seen any more. But if I do, I'm so grateful that Olympus has this feature.

LOL..........................ah Dave, you have been spending too much time painting.....LOL

You must have been 'shooting up' for the challenge....and now you're seeing hot pixies! LOL
