I need some help as I'd like to buy a prime for my 5dII.

I already have the 50 1.4 and now thinking between the 85 1.8 and 100 f2. I'd like to have a lens I can use for face shots from a less "disturbing" distance. is the 85 mm going to be enough or shall i go for the 100 f.2?
thx

Personally, I would go for the 100mm - 85m is too close to 50mm.

But only you will know which is the better focal length for you!

Got any other elenses alredy?

Look through them.

An 85 is really too short for a head and shoulder photo, and a 135 is really too long for a full body, and that makes the 100 just about perfect.

The only question is f2 -- great high speed lens that is easy to focus -- or the f2.8 macro, which is plenty fast and lets you get really close for other photos, too.

I've shot a million hed and shoulder pictures with a 105 on a Nikon film camera, after I lost an 85mm lens, which was pretty good but not so good that I replaced it. Instead, I got the 105.

Just love my 135 on the 5DII. For me it is perfect for head shots. Before I like to use the 85 1.8 on my 20D ( =136mm ) The 85 1.8 and the 100 2.0 is like twins, they are both very good.

I have a 5D and the 50 1.4. I had a 85 1.8, but sold it very soon after getting the 135L (I also have a 40D and the 50mm on it gives a similar perspective to 85mm on a 5D).

The 85mm does give more working space and a generally more pleasing perspective to portraits.....but if you can stretch to the 135L you won't be disappointed.

There are two relatively common (not absolutely these, variation for personal style always OK) ways to go:

(1) 20mm, 24mm or 28mm, 50mm, 100mm, 200mm, 400mm.

(2) 20mm, 35mm, 85mm, 135mm, 300mm, 500mm or 600mm.

You should decide whether you want to continue to build around your current lens or head in another direction. Either can be very satisfying.

PS I love my Canon 100mm f2 but the 85mm f1.8 is practically the same lens for practical purposes.
