Another Matting Idea

Mistral, not sure where I got it from, could have been part of Microsoft Publisher which I have. I think it's a pretty common font....Dave
Since I try to develope my pictures for eventual framing and
display, I've been trying to come up with a standard, simple,
elegant way to show off the pictures. Finally got to something
that satisfies and will allows me to create a feeling of "sameness"
or that of a collection. By choosing a neutral color that will go
well with almost any picture or your style, pre making the backing
and adding you sig and saving it for future uses, all you have to
do is drop your picture on as a layer, add a drop shadow and your
done. I try to stay with standard sizes (5X7 on 8X10, etc.) cause
I buy really cheap black plastic frames. Here's a sample, which
matches the apples in another post regarding softning....Dave

Dennis -

Whilst you're looking, keep an eye open for EUCLAIR too. Quite a nice one, clear and just that bit out-of-the-ordinary. Also not TOO difficult to get although you may well have to look at a number of sites - it's notTHAT popuplar.

I live and Michigan and know that Meijers stores carry them as does Wahlgreens drug stores. They are made by MCS Industries, Easton PA. they come in 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 8.5x11, 11X14 and even larger sizes. I can't remember the actual prices but I can hardly buy the glass for what I pay for the frame and glass from them. Appearance wise, you end up with a very thin black frame around the picture. Hope this helps...Dave
Now why didn't we all think of that !!

Thanks,

Paul
Dave...where do you purchase the "cheap black frames", and if you
don't mind, how much do they cost? TIA

I really enjoy the ideas presented in this forum. The burlap texture and imbossed "signature" really look good. I used this as an exercise to develop matte template of my own. I obviously still have a lot to learn to refine bevel cut illusion and creating action which can be used for any print size and landscape/portrait orientation.
These were the goals in mind:

1. Double-matte template design. This one was created for 11x14 horizontal frame at 240dpi. The final print can be used "as is" with simulated double matte, or preferably a real matte board can be cut to cover the outside "printed" matte board and separate the print from the frame glass.

2. My matte template is created and saved in neutral grays with the two "bevel cuts" reverse selected. I can then quickly adjust the color to complement the photograph, without affecting the shadow colors of the bevels.

Very nice Joe. Do you have an action that you can post for this effect?

I particularly like how you have matched the matte color to highlight the barn color.

I really love this classy treatment!

The directions below are great for creating the text and pasting the image, but I can't figure out how you got the drop shadow added. Can you explain?
TIA.
