How dumb is this?

So you canceled your new order? So you are not getting the lens at all? What happened?
I called Amazon this morning and spoke to a gentleman named Mathew. Dealing with them on the phone is totally different than dealing with them via e-mail.

Mathew was very polite and professional.

They were able to refund me the difference of $60.00 and they cancelled my new order (I was unable to do so online). They also informed me that the "price guarantee" is good for 7 days which I find odd because you have more than 7 days to return the item.

Their price guarantee should be as long as the time you have to return an item.

I'm curious. What would you expect if the price had gone up $50 or $60? Would you expect Amazon to come after you for the extra money?

Amazon isn't perfect. No retailer is. I've found that Amazon usually offers good prices and ships quickly. They take returns without question if I am not satisfied. I'll keep using them.

I thought I was going to have to purchase another lens at the cheaper price and return the original at the more expensive price.

I ordered it last night but it had not shipped. In the meantime I called Amazon and they were able to refund me the difference of 60.00. I no longer needed to order the 2nd lens.

There is a reason the late night comedians always make jokes about it... talking to India will get you nowhere.

Amazon has customer service people in at least three countries, maybe more. US, India and Phillipines.

When you call or email its a crap shoot where you end up but most of the time it is not the US. If you end up in India or the Phillipines, they have authority to do nothing but read to you from a script. They have no access to any information that is even slightly out of the ordinary and cannot do anything for you whatsoever. Their one and only job is to get you to hang up, so, hang up!...

It may be rude, but Amazon has got to learn to stop "saving money" by routing calls to script readers. When you call, immediately ask what country the other person is in and hang up if it is not the US (or Canada, I seem to recall they may have some people in Canada). Eventually you will get through to someone in the US and then you will be able to get answers and results.

Don't believe me? OK, talk to the person in India, listen to the script, get your "we can't do anything sir" answer and then start calling back until you reach someone in the US. Magically, something can be done after all! (Go ahead, guess how I know this!)

Amazon is just fine and perfectly reasonable. Pretend Amazon, the one you get outside the country, is there only to eliminate people who don't really have a problem to begin with.

People who utter the phrase 'I have a good eye' should be beaten to death with their
cameras... being careful to leave a corpse with one good eye! ;-)

It is a real shame you have to do this with a company you are doing business with. My first call to Amazon this morning was answered by a man named Salew. For some reason before anything could be done I got disconnected. When I called back I spoke to a man named Mathew.

In the future, my first stop will be B&H Photo.
