Okay, these are not news, but merely rumors and speculations collected from different forums/newsgroups. Here is my Top Ten:

1. Olydak
  • The highly-anticipated and overly-hyped Olympus/Kodak/(Foveon?) collaboration will allegedly be a [brand new?] interchangable lens SLR system
2. Canon
  • rumored dual-CCD pro SLR or a full-sized CCD or something high-end
  • 5MP digicams (G3? S50?)
  • overdue for an upgrade to the pro-sumer ProIS90
3. Olympus
Other than the Olydak:
  • Rumored Camedia 730 in Europe: a 3MP 10x follow up to 700/720
  • An E-30 that is not related to the "Olydak project"?
4. Minolta
  • Rumored upgrade to 7i. Didn't that come out like ...yesterday?
  • Any news on a Digital SLR?
5. Foveon
  • What will happens first: Find the LocNess monster or see a Foveon-based digicam?
6. Sony
  • Will F717 remain the high-end Sony? Any surprises?
  • A 5MP update to both the S-series and the P-series ?
7. Nikon
  • Something about a D2? D1x and D1h came out a while back...
8. Fuji
  • Other than the S2, the rest of the Fujis are just 3MP cameras that utilize the SuperCCD that creates a 2x interpolated file. Time for something over 3MPs? They recently revamped their low-end with xD cards with 3800 being the top-model of that group... The upper-end should be following soon?
9. Pentax
  • No Digital SLRs? Was the El-2000/HP912 too painful?
10. Contax
  • That wild-card announcement leaves a lot to the imagination

....there could be a surprise with the price.

The Sigma people are either very stupid, or they fully realize they
really need to have at least one functioning Foveon camera
in their hands, that they can bring to Photokina and show to
people.

Maybe they can lie and say "available for consumer sale in December",
and then later push that date back to February 2003, or whatever,
but I think they need to have a functioning prototype camera in
their representatives hands for Photokina.

Maybe it migth be good if they even let guys like Phil take a
few photos with the thing. And then Phil can post those images,
taken at Photokina, here on his site. No cropping, no tethering
to a PC, nothing. Just regular shot with that one camera.

That I would guess is the minimum we should expect. If not
better than that.

I'd love to see a picture OF the Loch Ness beast taken with a Foveon.

Or how about the Loch Ness monster itself USING a Foveon. Think of
the publicity then!!!
Not to get into one-ups-manship, but how about the Loc Ness
monster using a Foveon at the Sigma booth at Photokina ?

And try to make sure the jagged tail is in the picture, so we can see if
he or she is wagging their tail, and hence proof its a pleasing camera.

Phil has actually hinted there will be some interesting surprises. Of course it was a very weak hint and could be interpreted to mean anything. If the Foveon chip misses this show then I think the world will move on and not miss it.

This is the time for Foveon and Sigma to deliver and it better blow the socks off of everyone. Otherwise it will just be the Mouse that Roared.
to believe we'll see a functional sd9 at Photokina?
I really wouldn't know either way. Maybe, maybe not.
But I find it interesting to see that you are sure there
won't be.

On the site mentioned in your link (shopharmony.com), the new crop of Fuji xD cameras (3800, 203, 303, 2650) are listed with prices...

I checked on MySimon.com and it shows that about half a dozen online shops are listings them as well... I guess they are arriving...

Tim

Hmm, actually I was just kidding, with Nessie and all it was supposed to be, um ... oh never mind. For the record I certainly do hope Sigma can give show off a camera with FULL sized pictures that everyone can see (= download). And yes, I wouldn't mind seeing the Loch Ness Monster either.

Rich

I'm sorry, I can't reveal my source, but I did some digging so as to confirm this and my reliable source tells me... THE LOCH NESS MONSTER WILL BE AT THE SIGMA BOOTH AT PHOTOKINA!

Actually, Rich, it took me awhile, but I figured out the joke, I
think. You were disagreeing with the Foveon Camera part,
but leaving the Nessie at Photokina part as an uncontested
possibility.

Sorta like the one they had for PMA back in February?

Seriously, working preproduction cameras exist and have been handled
by non-Sigma people. I think you'll see retail shipments this month.
