I'd say it's possible and very likely that you are correct.
However, and I'll say this with a grain of salt, if you look at the lasting power of the 1Ds series bodies, usually about 2-3 years in terms of performance/image quality versus the rest of the market - they could in fact go larger.
There are currently 3 other Canon cmos chip designs that produce more that 30 megapixels that are currently not in consumer cameras. If Canon wants to show it's mustard they very may well hit somewhere in 45-50 megapixels on the next body.
However, there's the rub of the actual resolution of the glass and what not. Not to mention the usability of images of those size for a larger consumer base.
Also, do not count out a completely new sensor technology being utilized on the next 1Ds. I'd almost bet my cow and my pig that the next 1Ds will be a 16bit camera.
I anticipate that there will be full HD recording just as there is now, but likely an advancement in image readout to reduce that nasty jello and also I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 90fps at full 1080p. Maybe even higher.
But we're a year away from this really happening in any case. And this is all crystal ball mumbo jumbo. We've hit that level of variance where once again something new will need to differentiate itself from the market a bit more than "normal".
Whatever happens, that next camera will be good. Very good.
