G11 never reach Leica M9

I bought the G11 as a "poor man's" Leica. Its small and silent, and that's all I needed for street and other people oriented stuff. I use the viewfinder all the time (play with g11 online: http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Camera_Test/CanonPowerShotG11/ ), it has pretty good parallax correction so what is in the center of the VF is usually in the center of the frame, you just don't get to see all the edges. Whatever. We all know how amazing it would be to own an M9, but 90% of people can't or won't purchase one. The best camera in the world is the one that's with you, and the G11 doesn't leave my side. It's a great complement to my SLRs.

In my constant search for downsizing size/weight V retaining good IQ for 'Street Photography' - I am considering a Canon G11 or the S90.

The S90 is more appealing, mainly for it's size/weight (which is pocket capable) but also the IS, it's reputed low noise, and the RAW files, which I always shoot!

I am waiting for reviews to compare the IQ V Noise (A3 print size) against the old G7 (which I had for a brief spell)

My present 'Likea Leica' kit is a Canon 450D + Canon 24L (38mm FOV) Lens.

Regards

Richard.

Wearing varifocal glasses I am totally digging the G11's flip out screen for "stealth" shooting.

mentally, I figure the G11 is my baby steps / learner - digital camera.

I used to use a Nikon in the late 70's and a small darkroom.

But after some toy Casio Exslims I want to get back info the swing of a manual camera and to dive into RAW pp.

The low light snaps of my toddlers and thier cousins have been stellar!

Once I have this thing aced I will move on and want the next gadget up.

Meanwhile, I will be trying to figure out what the absolute best stealth / candid people / low light camera is. Is it the Leica M9 with some insanely bright (and expencive) lens?

I agree, an M9 would be super sweet but it's out of reach for all but very profitable working pros or wealthy amateur enthusiasts. The G11 is a nice balance. I am still considering an M4/3 option, but the G11 all in one seems to be a great option and I do love my G9 :-)

Just go glue a "red dot" on your G11...LMAO! just kidding!

After being very disappointed with the G9 OVF I'm very pleased with the one on the G11. For me a "point and shoot" needs something other than an LCD to "point" with. So the G11 really fits my non-DSLR, take-anywhere walkaround needs more than any camera I've owned in a long while.

Of course, it will not equal the Leica M9 -- but you can by, what, 16? G11s for the price of one M9. Not a hard trade off for those of us on a camera budget of $2500 a year or so.
