Shooting suggestion in NYC

Thanks for the tips, in that case, I'll remove the MD and CF, and
let my DSLR go thorugh the Xray.

Is that a good place for night view? If not, I probably will try
to be there as early as possible, trying to avoid direct sun light
from 11am to 4pm.
I think it's equally beautiful during day and night... the morning is usually good to avoid long lines. I guess it depends on what type of photos you want take. On a clear day you can see for miles... especially nice views of the outer boroughs and bridges. It's also an excellent place at night if the weather is clear. The truth is that since the Empire State Building is now the most prominent figure in the NYC skyline, it's hard to take a recognizable picture of the city without including it.

Be warned that the line of tourists gets very long around this time (evening hours). The last elevator up is around 11:15 PM.

I believe that all of the major museums in NYC prohibit the use of flash, and only the Metropolitan Museum of Art allows tripods, restricted to Tuesdays to Fridays, and you need to check in and get a permit (free).

Metropolitan Museum of Art: http://www.metmuseum.org
(if you like the arts of Medieval Europe, try The Cloisters)
Brooklyn Museum of Art: http://www.brooklynmuseum.org
Guggenheim Museum: http://www.guggenheim.org
Whitney Museum: http://www.whitney.org
Dia Center for the Arts: http://www.diaart.org
International Center for Photography: http://www.icp.org

You may also be interested in the Museum of Chinese in the Americas, in Big Chinatown somewhere, possibly on Mott Street.

Enjoy NYC,
WH
Actually I want to check out the general rules in using tripod and
flash inside indoor campus such as museum or exhibition hall. In
Hong Kong, both are not allowed by default, unless otherwise stated
or get special permission in advance. So what is the practise in
US? I understand Flash is a sensitive issue but I hope tripod is
acceptable.

Thanks, that means I can't use my tripod as I'll visit NYC outside Tuesdays to Fridays.

Thanks for the link, they are vey handlie for me.

I that case, I'll try to take an early morning round on Empire Building first, and try my luck to see if I can fit in another round in the night on Sat.

And good to look the lift service time, thanks.

2. St. John the Divine---- think it is in the 90's on the WestSide have't been in a loooooong time.

3.The Feast of San Gennaro on Mulbury Street----Lotsa fun...great food...will fullfil yer beautiful women requirement
4.Central Park---Duh!!! Will also help with women requirement.
5.Empire State Building---Duh!!!
6.Times Square---Duh!!! women requirement.
7.Saturday September 21st The Great Irish Festival
(on Avenue of the Americas from 42nd - 57th Street)
Lotsa People okey food...don't buy anything there though (IMO) women requirement
8.Sunday September 22nd Tudor City Festival
(on 2nd Ave. from 43rd - 53rd Street)
same as above.

9.And if after alllll of this if you haven't gotten yer shots of beatiful women ( which I don't think is possible) you can hang outside of Bryant Park (42nd street bet 5th and 6th) cuz it is Fashion week. (if you like the beautiful model types you are bound to see something you like... p.s. don't bother trying to get inside a tent....you have ZERO shot.)

hope this helps

Jeremiah

p.s. there is alot more to do...Bronx Zoo, South Street Seaport, the Bridges, and tons others but the ones I listed are the one I would do.

Thank you so much, Jeremiah, this is a very excited list, more than enough to fill my time indeed, besides, scenery and building is still my primary interest -- not that I dislike beautiful woman, :-)

Definitely want to check out the Feast of San Gennaro, but I must not let my dietian find out about that, ha ha ha.

Yes of course they'll be women jogging, some of them very attractive, but the world being what it is nowadays, they're usually armed with any combination of:
  • Mace/pepper spray
  • large and/or nasty dog
  • cell phone w/NYPD on speed dial
  • large and/or nasty male jogging companion
  • surprisingly strong muscles from hours in the gym
  • no-holds-barred fighting moves learned in anti-**** workshops
Especially since you'll be in town the week after the 9/11 anniversary, you might want to be respectful or at least discrete.
