I'm wrapping up a quick rest and relaxation which started at one of the popular coastal tourist destinations. After a few days I got bored and hopped on a bus and somehow ended up staying in a remote village in NE Thailand for the better part of my stay. What a great time, the locals are warm and friendly and so happy here. I'm definitely coming back with more gear next time.

All of my pictures have been taken with the Rebel XT, 18-55 IS kit lens and 3 primes. I can't wait to come back for a more serious shoot.

A typical rice field taken during one of my many morning walks. I was having major problems with fog and mist, needing to wipe the lens frequently.

A popular destination of the locals.

A remote farm house again taken during one of my early morning hikes.

I've got so many shots to cull through and process, it's going to take awhile. For now I'm using my little 10" laptop, it'll be interesting to see what they look like on a larger calibrated screen.

Regards,

Roger

Cartier-Bresson 1957

Small - the holes are about 4 inches tall, give or take. Shot closeup at 19mm.
I like the texture and shape in the third one a lot. Are these formations very large and shot from a distance or small and close up?

Great shot. To me a truly great landscape shot makes me want to be there, and looking at this shot, I really want to be there!
This is one from just over a year ago in Slovenia - I posted a few at the time but held off properly processing most of these ones till recently. Largely because the colours were so crazy and whatever I did thy looked too good to be true. In the end I think/hope I got it about right and actually dulled things down a little - this is my favourite of them - 3 merged exposures, 1DSiii, 135L with 2x converter - amazing quality you can get from this lens with a 2x - I had to get rid of some CA but otherwise detail is superb and it prints easily at A2 - probably a lot bigger.

This gives a great sense of a tiny village in a huge landscape - lovely light and not a bad altitude to be out taking photos! Then I guess you are used to it! ;-)
Thank you Lizzie. Actually the first few days were hard. I took a plane to that region so on arriving I spent the first three days sitting in a hotel and getting used to the altitude. Luckily this was after our trek when we went up to 5400m so there was enough hemoglobin!

Beaut selection Bob. Didn't look like a promising start (?) to what turned into a delightful weekend drive!
Lovely comps, evening colour and deft choices for b&w.
cheers

Those spotty shadows really set a nice mood on this lovely scene. Nice job fashioning it for presentation.

Great stuff this week, Bob. I love the feeling of #1, and the color and composition of #4 is excellent.

Fine, fine geology here. Nice spread of varied opportunities, hard to have a preference, all so nice. I'd agree with what I believe Tokengirl suggested - where the polarizer has the blues very deep, a bit of desaturation and lightening of the blue HSL might be considered.

This was my first time out with the lens, and there is a significant learning curve associated with it. But I really enjoyed the way it slowed me down. Today was also the first time I used live view on my camera - it was a big help with this lens.
The use IS a nice change of pace, isn't it? I also didn't give LV much consideration until putting a T/S to it. It's an enjoyable discipline, and NDG positioning by hand is a considerable bonus using LV.

Again, your eye to a relatively simple (but deceivingly so) scene is much admired. The treatment lends a presence to the image that's special.
