I just bought a DMC-ZS3 and took some videos of my son's soccer game. It was disappointing since there is a delay of at least a second between when I pressed the movie button and when the video is actually captured. Moreover, the LCD screen is blank during that one sec also. This one sec delay makes this video mode useless for me since I need a very responsive camera to take soccer games. I have used a much less expensive Olympic P&S camera and don't even have that problem. I am planning to return the camera. Any suggestion to fix it or any good recommendation for other camera. I am looking into Canon SX20IS now.

Recording video costs you nothing. The SDHC card is reusable. If I was recording a soccer game I would leave the camera running. The battery lasts for about 90 minutes of continuous video, and I have several spare batteries. One very big feature of the ZS3 is the ability to record very long videos (in the AVCHD format).

I don't have a ZS3, but the FZ28 manual tells you that if you press and release the shutter button quickly, the video will start right away. If you hold it down, there will be a 1-2 second delay before filming starts. I think it's a "feature."

I have also noticed that there is sometimes about 1 second of lost audio at the end of the clip.

Yes, that happens with the FZ38 too, always a delay with blank screen. It can be quite annoying.... makes me wish for those real camcorders with the 'time machine' feature where it's constantly buffering so that you can start recording after something happened and still catch it!

good to know, so I won't get one. This delay has been driving me nuts already with my TZ7.
