If our dollar continues to strengthen against the greenback are you planning to buy at B&H, Adorama or any online store in the U.S. or will buy locally?

Love the new bells and whistles of the 7D :-)

Cheers,

José

I've been thinking about buying in the states, certainly if the Canadian prices don't come down. My one worry is that if there's trouble with the sample I get and I want to return it, that becomes a bigger hassle. If I buy locally I can just drive to the store and get another one.

Very first post...here goes;

I shopped locally and after evaluating with the US big guys I placed my order with B&H 2 days ago for a 7D, grip, additional battery, 300mm 2.8L IS, 1.4 ext, and Lowepreo Trekker. Today the grip arrived along with a duty charge of $40. All are shipped air express Fed Ex. The balance of my goods are to be delivered tomorrow. We'll see if there's any truth in the no duty charge on camera equipment. From all indications the US sources were cheaper but one never knows until the dust clears and everything hits the ground here. I plan on doing a spread sheet after and at that point I'll know where my future purchases will be made.

There should be no duty on US imports. You will be charged PST and GST. Is that what you mean?

US$1 = $.76 kiwi

I will be buying from BH and shipping it to NZ...

$2850 on trademe(ebay) for an import...

Sorry I erred..total with gst and duty was $40 ($39.03)
No pst here in Alberta...duty...I paid 7% duty or $16.17..

Just to clarify, that was $16.17 duty on the battery grip only.... right?

That's correct..I haven't received anything more of the order yet..I sure hope there isn't 7 points on the whole purchase !!.I anticipate savings of over $1k (without duty)

Thanks Jose',

I read nothing but great reviews of that piece of glass [300mm 2.8]. I just hope the 7 doesn't take anything away from it :(

If you are close enough to a boarder to drive over I would just go get one.

I happen to be in the states when the 7d were released and with the 10% coupon picked mine up at bestbuy for a total of 1846 after taxes and that included the 28-135mm lens. After exchange it works out to $1948 (if you dont want the 28-135mm you can sell it $200-$300 currently) Body only at henry 2099 plus are lovely taxes would be a around a wopping $2400.

If you sold the lens you would end up saving yoru self $600-700 or save $400 and keep a lens that retails for $699 here at henrys.

Definitely better to buy from the states when the dollar is close to parr. A real pain to return things.

I have made my decision. Don't confuse me with the facts.

Here is how I'm going to do it...;

1. Order from B&H or Adorama around Christmas, whichever going to have better price. I hope prices will go down little bit. I'll order Mack extended warranty for 3 years as well, which gives International Warranty (costs around $75)

2. Have the camera shipped to my Mail forwarded in Florida (Myus.com). They prepare new invoice for custom purposes (wholesale price...!)

3. Myus.com will ship the camera to me with DHL. Shiment will cost around $45, GST will cost around $30.

So, 1700 + 75 + 45 + 30 = 1850 with 3 year international warranty and still cheaper compared to what we have in Canada at the moment...

Paid U$1992 (C$ 2075) for the 7D, Grip and spare LP-E6 Battery with shipping to Blaine WA. Will drive across tomorrow to pick up, get cheap gas and some decent Tex-Mex food in Bellingham. Will drive back and declare it, pay GST and PST. I basically get the grip, battery shipping and lunch for free over buying it locally.

Why would you declare that? Just mail the packaging of the camera by the cheapest method back home and drive in...?

Because as a working pro, I can write of the entire purchase anyway. Besides, even if I do decide to follow your suggestion, I won't be admitting that on a public forum ya know....
