I want to buy a smartcard reader because flashpath adaptor takes too long to transfer images from my Fuji or Olympus digi cams. I'm using WinME.
Can anyone recommend a good reader?
Thanx,
Brendan

You can get an excellent PMCIA Adaptor from Jessops for £37.99 or Compact Flash Adaptor for £7.99...both work very well...I have them myself.

Thanx, Mike. Sorry, but I don't know what a PMCIA adaptor is? Is it a smartcard reader?

Yes Nice and easy to use! My P.C is Windows XP and you just put the Card Reader (with your Card in it) when you are in the My Pictures Mode and open the pictures into a Folder.....Hope this helps

Thanx Mike, I'll have a look at one.

PCMCIA is the standard for inserting cards to laptops (there are at least 3 sizes, I, II, and III, and a 2 II cards will fit in a III slot). If you don't have a laptop, then you probably don't need a PCMCIA adapter. Depending on your computer, there are SM readers for USB 1.1, USB 2.0, Firewire, Parallel port, serial port, and internal IDE. Most people use USB 1.1 readers.

Thanks to Michael Meissner and apologies to Brendan if I confused him with PMCIA, I use a Laptop and automatically thought of the PMCIA because of that!

Brendan,

I agree about the FlashPath - should not be used with any card over 16Mb!

Jessops do their own reader at about £24 - it looks like a rebadged Zio. I've been using it for some time and it's been trouble-free. There are cheaper alternatives on the web and others that cater for multiple card types: try http://www.7dayshop.com .

Pretty much any reader will need a USB connection: about the only reason for using FlashPath is that it doesn't. If your PC is pre-USB, you may need to add a USB card to it - shouldn't cost more than about £15.

I would suggest u to try with OmniFlash SmartMedia reader from
compuapps. It also comes with flash media formatting software
that is handy for smart media readers.
