New g11 review

Very positive review in the main, but an irritating conclusion that said the G11 would be the ultimate compact if it wasn't for the E-P1 and the GF-1.

I would have thought that the reviewer is some sort of pro photographer with a good grasp of the digicam market, but how anyone can seriously consider the G11, GF-1 and E-P1 to be competing in the same class I've no idea.

I agree it is a strange comparison, but i think the gap between top end compact cameras and smaller interchangeable lense cameras is going to get increasingly blurred as more so called compact cameras like the sigma dp1/2 come fitted with larger better quality sensors and the gap in image quality between the top end compact and micro four thirds diminishes .Like many people i would love canon to fit a larger sensor into a G series body .

I actually considered these three cameras in the same breath when I was shopping, (as a lightweight supplement to my DSLR setup) but discarded the E-P1 and GF-1 because of size. The G11 is pocketable. The other two are not, at least, not with their standard zoom lenses, maybe with their pancakes. So I chose the G11. It has to be said that I was initially sceptical of IQ of the G11 compared with the other two because of chip size, but my initial findings have made me pleasantly surprised. But then, I'm into photography, not pixel peeping.
