*** Mini Challenge #239 - Mood (NO PEOPLE) ***

Thank you! It was Portland Oregon's first White Christmas in 50+ years.
Beautiful winter pics, Terry. I can't pick a favorite, but like the happiness portrayed in the last one :-)

I call it "Depression"..it is snowing like crazy! This is actually an old picture..can't get my Camera Window to come up for my card reader, and my computer hasn't 'detected' my camera for a long time..not very happy and will have to look into it :-(

Hi Colleen,

Will you be sending your snow this way? It's raining cats and dogs and in the mid 70*F !
Here is outside the window earlier this afternoon

As far as your computer, sounds like the drives are being recognized.

I once had a problem that my CD ROM and DVD ROM weren't being recognized and somehow thru online help, I got them back on. Hopefully your drives can be too or its soon time for an early xmas present. :)

Or check out the PC forum for help. :)

While the names aptly fit the photo neither one is a "Mood". Several other photos were given names that aren't moods...

Wrath and awe are both feelings, you wouldn't say the mood of the photo was "wrathy " or "awey". You would say the mood of the image was "Stormy" or "Angry".

OK, my rant is over.

As always, JMHO, of course.

Jim, I totally agree with you. Some of the names that have been given to entries aren't moods at all.

My other problem with this challenge is that, IMHO, the mood an image conveys depends as much, if not more, on the viewer as it does on the photo.

I had some entries ready to upload and as the best names I could think to give them was 'moody', I decided not to enter them.

My rant is now over too :)

from an online dictionary

mood 1 (md)
n.
1. A state of mind or emotion.
2. A pervading impression of an observer: the somber mood of the painting.
3. An incidence of sulking or angry behavior.
4. Inclination; disposition.

I tend to like the "state of mind or emotion" definition for my photos here.

I have been playing with some HDR software - without success. I then played with 4 different exposures taken from the same raw file where I had overexposed some leaves - at least as seen in the 1st conversion.

I put them together in PS Elements, choosing only the areas I wanted from each (via masking).
The result:

Peaceful or relaxing

I think that a name of a photo does not change a feeling it evoke. Thus I think that some photos are not "moods" even if the names are ones of the moods. And some are "moods" even if the name is not any mood.

But it does not change the fact that here are several photos, that does not provoke any mood in my mind, watching them ;-)

Were you wanting the snow, Sue Anne? ;-) It stopped around noon and melted..dry and clear this evening. I'll look into the online help..thanks!

Nick, that was your point and I’m sorry that in my reply to Jim’s ‘rant’ I didn’t make it clear that I wasn’t directing my comments to any one person in particular. In my response I meant to give my general observations about the challenge and my reasons for not entering it and I worded it badly.

Your extra Wrath / Awe photo illustrates my point about the viewer perfectly and, what’s more, it’s a terrific capture!
