If you have links to X1 photo samples please list them here.

I realize that all of them will be pre-production samples but I am still looking for as many samples from this camera as I can find.

I read on some site recently that Leica was not allowing people to shoot samples on their own memory cards.. no telling if that is true or not but I do know samples are out there. I just want to see more of them.

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear used to capture it.

Leica told me the other day they would send me one to check out as soon as they have a production model, which will be in December. Until then, it will only be pre-production samples, if any. From what I hear, it is pretty special. Can't wait.

I played with one yesterday in Los Angeles at Bel Air Camera, and they were very nice, but wouldn't let me put my card in to take photos. They indicated its still prototype hardware and the firmware is in flux, so I can understand. The images they had on their computers were wonderful, however, and they were images the one rep had taken himself in the previous week. He was apologizing that he hadn't even processed them yet, but they looked fabulous right out of the camera.

This is definitely going to be a special little camera.

I don't know about IQ, but look at the shadows, those are pretty extreme conditions contrast wise. It captures the Caribbean mood perfectly IMHO.

The images look O.K. but I would not buy a 2K P&S w/o handling it and taking pics that I could evaluate at home. The X-1 is a great concept and I hope other
manufacturers follow suit.

Any faults one will find (and I'm sure there will be some) would prove nothing.

Only pictures taken with the final version (camera, lens, firmware) would deserve close examination, in my opinion.

Why not wait till the first production X1 are available?

I've already ordered my X1 and according to my dealer here in Frankfurt they expect the first batch to start shipping in December (cross fingers).

Cheers

I'm not looking to prove anything... I want to see samples from the pre-production. If they are good.. one might expect the production images to be better.

Yes, but pre-production images are often worth looking at as well.

Because I am human and I am curious. Leica has been trotting this camera out all over the place for people to handle but telling them they could not use their own memory cards for photos... I'm just curious.

That is something I never do. I order nothing until I have had a chance to see it, feel it and do a bit of hands on with it. I am not willing to make that leap of faith at $2000... so anything I can see in advance, even pre-production, gives me an indication of what is to come.

I had started with digital a few years ago - with the Panasonix LX1. Then came the LX2, then the DP1 and early this year the DP2.

I have also played around with the LX3 and the GH1, which I bought for my brother and my sister.

I'm only interested in a small, compact camera the size of the DP2 (the LX2 was actually a bit too small for me).

I'm very happy with a fixed lens - and having had the DP1 and now the DP2 I know that the X1 lens, which is sligthly wider than the DP2 lens, will fit my style of photograpy nearly perfectly.

In terms of image quality the DP1 and the DP2 are the best so far - but they lack in other areas like slow autofocus, horrible noise (especially the DP2) when extending the lens, sub-par LCD etc.

Along comes the Leica X1, which has several improvements over the DP2, which I find important. Admittedly some of them are based on assumptions on my side (like I fully expect the autofocus of the X1 to be better than the one of the DP2 etc).

Another assumption on my side is that the X1 sensor is comparable (if not identical) to the D300 sensor, which is no slouch either (Foveon notwithstanding).

I also find DNG support promising and expect better build quality.

Not to mention the lens - although the DPX's lenses are very good indeed.

Hence my order - and I'm fully aware of the fact that over the next few years there will be other cameras and, I hope, improvements in this special category, which will mean that I might have to buy yet another camera in a year or so.

When I have the X1 in December (again cross fingers), I will post some images.

Cheers

That's the $2000 question that would make me pause given the mirror-less entries so far. Other than Panasonic, who has stellar AF performance with contrast-detection?

As you know, there's still a large decrepency between DPx focus and not-so-slow AF, and we never enter the "reasonable" territory. :)

But I do love the twin dials. I would really prefer that over the LCD display.

Given the collaboration between Leica and Panasonic and also factoring in the fact that the project manager of the X1 is Japanese (if I'm not completely wrong), I'd bet 20 Euros that the X1's AF will be better than the one of the DP2.

The X1 does also have a high speed AF mode (with the LCD freezing during AF hunting), which to me is further indication that the AF is better.

Of course - I'm the first to admit that this is a lot of assumptions.

P.S.:

I also like the fact that normal AF on the X1 is from 60cm to infinity (on the DP2 it's from 1m to infinity).
