Couple Portrait

I'm old and it is ok to me. As long as I still look alive I'm happy. one thing that is odd in the first post if you click the link it looks over exposed in your second post it looks ok

I think the lighting works well, and it's a pleasing capture of this nice looking couple, however the faces may be a bit overexposed, particularly the man's. Try a shadow/highlight adjustment of about 4/10, and see if you like that any better. Are the man and woman different distances from the main light? If so, it might have been better to rotate them a bit clockwise, such that the man is farther to the back and the woman closer. This might help also improve the apparent relative size of their heads as well. Also, is that an aRGB file you posted? Looks that way to me, and if so, it's best to convert to sRGB for internet use.

Regarding Tom's observations, I think the images are the same - we just have our eyeballs set to their default aperture-priority. When one views an image against a white background versus a darker one, the eye will compensate like a camera, reducing the aperture to darken the image. A medium gray background is best.

I think you may have a monitor problem. What monitor do you use, and is it calibrated? Looking at the first link, it's easy for me to see details below the necks, though it could be lighter. I use a calibrated HP-2275 wide gamut s-pva LCD monitor.

I'm wondering if less light with a more open aperture might have given a better exposure, along with repositioning the subjects relative to the main light.
On my monitor, there is no detail below the necks. It looks like 2 heads with no bodies. Creepy.

Nice expressions, lighting fine but IMO could use a little more space around subjects and faces more evenly distanced from camera

Not sure if the two images are in different color space but you can see from the two links the apparent differences. I just stumbled upon this when playing on the website.

Now both images are identical. Earlier posts picture with capital S at the end had nice color saturation and no ID banner at the bottom, now both links show the same picture. This site is in BETA testing though.

I like the lighting, it works and it compliments the couple. The light is a little bit hot on the man, but not blown out, so I'm okay with it. You cannot move the light without messing up the falloff and/or shadows, and I like them where they are. You have no reflections on the glasses and no shiny spot on his forehead, so I say call it a wrap and sell a 24x36.

I really like that you have a authenticity to their smiles and there is a tight coupling between them. The photo conveys without question that they are a couple and are completely comfortable with each other. My one complaint is that the cropping is too tight. If this is cropped for display, then that is okay, but you would have trouble framing this with such tight cropping. The mat would have to be custom cut to just fit the edge of the photo, as there is no margin for alignment.
