Hi,

I've got a G2, 1 GB IBM MD, and Windows 2000 SP2. After my first shooting, I downloaded via USB fine.

I then formated the MD in Windows and, again, in Canon G2. Started shooting and can't acquire on this second time. The green light keeps blinking and no image was download via USB

What did I do wrong? What I am doing now is use PCMCIA to move jpg to local hard drive.

Thanks for your help.

BTW, I have checked cable, W2K detects the USB connection. The lens cap is off. I see some of the "tumbnail shots". From 8th photo to the rest has got a ? mark on the pic., however.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi

I am not totally sure but I suspect that you formatted your MD in FAT32 format in windows and I am not sure if the camera likes that. I think in most camera it still uses FAT16 format. Try formatting the MD in camera and see if it will work again.

1) Why format the MD at all - either from computer or in camera? I have used digital cameras with CF cards for over 4 years and have NEVER formatted a CF card. It's kind of like 'why fix it if it ain't broken?'

2) What's wrong with just continuing to COPY (not MOVE) your photos from the CF to your computer using the PCMCIA adapter? It's MUCH faster, no cables to mess with, no software involved. Again, in over 4 years, that's what I have done. All the mag articles I have read recommend card readers over USB connections and software.

I say COPY and not MOVE, because I don't want to delete the photos from my CF card until I am sure they are correctly loaded to my computer. I then ALWAYS delete them using the camera delete function and NEVER delete them using the computer. Just my preferences, but I have had NO problems at all. I have over 1200 MB of CF storage consisting of a mixture of CF cards of various sizes and different brands, including a 340 MB IBM MD.

Gus,

You have good points. However, doing a format with dos command "format fs:fat drive:" actually helps avoid using corrupted sectors.

Good for you that you've a microdrive that don't fail on you, yet. On the other hand, there are users on the other side of the luck.

So, how does this help my problem? Especially, I have jpeg on the camera that will show question mark and can't be view.

ood idea. I tried format it first in DOS using format fs:FAT drive. After that, I even format in camera twice.

I remove and reinstall all the software from Canon including PS5lite.

Problem presist. May be just a bad luck on my purchase. However, I do like to know if other users have good ideas on the fix.

Thanks.
